When we looked up this restaurant we didn’t know that it was inside the hotel. But we found it. It was really nice inside but we were looking for more of a romantic place. Also the menu we seen on the reviews was not the menu we received, it was like half the options we seen online. The waiter we had was really nice and got everything we asked for. Our food was really good too. In the end we had a really nice time. It was more of us just celebrating of anniversary together. O and the sweet potato tater tots were amazing.

Paella was great. Lots of food. Wife had Filet Mignon and loved it.

We tried the fixed price Christmas ciopino meal with ceasar salad and garlic bread. The ciopino was a disaster, the shrimp was not fresh, the scallops were raw, some of the minuscule amount of halibut was tender, other bits were overcooked, and the onions were raw. The garlic bread was undercooked, and clearly a frozen item of poor quality. At $45 a person this company should be capable of delivering a higher quality meal. The server was clearly sick and should not have been interfacing with customers.

The server for our dinner was great, she deserved the tip we left. The bartender on the other hand, completely profiled us for having money and charged us $50 a shot for a brand of whiskey that goes for $50 at Costco. The bartender did not give us prices, menus, nothing. I asked for a shot and he poured it. You would think he would give a warning about the price, but his excuse was that he didn’t want to offend me. Absolutely ridiculous. The manager Brian said he would give our money back, but never did. DO NOT GO HERE.

Cinnamon French toast with crispy bacon. Delicious. The bacon was crispy but not overcooked, and the French toast has crispy edges and a fluffy inside. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Their service was excellent. Thank you, Plu and Aldi.

Food was horrible. Everything was super salty, should have recognized it’s their way to hide spoiled seafood. My wife and I got sick afterwards. Don’t eat here. I very much question their cleanliness.

Good food is hard to find in Monterey. Don’t miss the fabulously addictive hand-made papusas at Jack’s Monterey in the Portola Hotel. Have the papusa on your first day in town and I promise you’ll be back each day for another.

Eggs Benny was pretty darn good. As it says, “classic”, but well done with potatoes, grilled onions and grilled bell peppers. With a slice of watermelon. The Bloody Mary was from a generic cheap mix, but overall very nice ambiance and good food.

Stayed at the hotel, and was skeptical to eat here. But my wife and I were starving, so we tried their breakfast. Boy was it delicious! The Javier skillet and the huevos rancheros was yummy!!! Don’t forget to add the hot sauce!

This is our in-laws favorite place to go so we join them when in town & are never disappointed. It’s located in the plaza of the Portola Hotel. The service is fast and friendly. We love the calamari and garlic fries. Last time we came they had cheesy skillet with dinner rolls as an appetizer that were AMAZING! We were so sad to see they are no longer on the menu. We got the bread boule instead but it wasn’t as good. It taste fine but the cheese is hard and dry and it’s difficult to pull apart and eat. BRING BACK the other appetizer!! Other than that we love the atmosphere.
