After hearing so many positive things about this bar, I was extremely disappointed by my experience. As a visitor during homecoming weekend, I had hoped to be met with the same hospitality others had described. Unfortunately, the bouncer’s behavior was shockingly rude and unprofessional.
My group approached politely, only to be abruptly told, “Sorry, I can’t let you in—you’re too drunk,” despite the fact that we were calm, composed adults on our first stop after dinner. His tone and demeanor were unnecessarily hostile, suggesting he was simply in an irritable mood.
What was most concerning, however, was the sense that his actions may have been influenced by prejudice or bias. If that was the case, it’s deeply disappointing to encounter such behavior in a community-oriented establishment. Cruelty and discrimination are never acceptable, regardless of motivation.
I hope this incident is not representative of the bar’s overall culture or staff and that management takes steps to ensure all patrons are treated with respect and fairness moving forward.

We live in NC & drive up to our previous home state of PA several times a year. We usually make a stop at Jack Browns for a hot burger off the grill…never had a bad one! Now I’m hungry for one…sigh.

My friends and I were visiting Middle Bar as a last goodbye to our beloved time here in Harrisonburg. Unfortunately, we were all extremely overcharged for a drink and dismiss for a table after we had waited in line. It is unfortunate because we had had such good memories before and to leave this is the last taste in our mouth is sad. I hate to have to say something since I’ve had so many good memories here but this was too significant to go unaddressed.

I came solo with my two kids looking for a good bite to eat. The hostess was very kind to accommodate us in a low top table so my two young children were comfortable. This is obviously not an establishment for young kids (and that’s okay!) but the peanuts and disco light kept them happy. Food was good! Thanks for accommodating my little family.

Food with flair and frugal price. Great food and flavors done in a simple way. We had a three year old and a 9 year old and even they are all their food. That alone should win them a best food in Virginia award. The jalapeño and cream cheese burger was my favorite.
