We came to this place on a recommendation from our acquaintance. It was a great decision and our group had a great time here. We came right before lunch and it was already starting to get packed. The food, atmosphere, and hospitality really went above and beyond. I would highly recommend this place for a great meal.

We were seated right away on a Tuesday night.
Brenda took care of us and did a great job!
She helped us with some food recommendations when we couldn’t decide and had a lot of patience to all of our questions.
The queso was good and also the steak.
Mac n cheese was average, the crispy top was a nice touch, the chicken lacked some seasoning.
Spicy margarita was also tasty.

Fantastic portions, great food, excellent prices, good service. This restaurant is an old Austin establishment and it’s earned all the incredible reviews it’s gotten over the years. The happy hour is an especially great deal for the half off starters!

A consistent experience of good food and pleasant accommodations. I would characterize this restaurant as an oversized neighborhood restaurant. There several in Austin and I have dined at most of them. Today was crispy shrimp. A little on the spicy side but good. The nice thing about this local restaurant chain is that they do a menu refresh on a periodic basis that is really welcomed.

The migas were bland.
It was super weird that the kids Mac and cheese had bleu cheese. My kids normally love Mac and cheese but they refused to eat this because of the strong flavour.
Disappointed as I was expecting better.
It’s as if the use of pretentious ingredients justified the price.
The kids fruit bowl was just pears… And there were rotten spots that they didn’t even cut out. Maybe I am nitpicking, but it all added up to a very meh experience

They have some very unique menu items with big flavors. I wish I would have taken some pictures of the soup, but it was so good that I couldn’t wait.
They even make sure that you leave with a to go drink if you need one.

We can always count on Jack Allen’s to provide the experience and food we are craving. This is a lovely space, with a variety of seating types (booth, high top by bar, square table, outdoor/screened porch seating), and the waitstaff is friendly and welcoming.
I’ve never ordered anything here I didn’t love, but this time I was there for the terrific happy hour — $1 off drinks and half price appetizers! We got beers from their choice of local taps and after enjoying the taste of pimiento cheese and crackers they bring every table, we dug in on the appetizers. The Smashed Guacamole is a MUST, the best in the city, and we added the Crunchy Catfish and Slaw and the Barbacoa Stackers. YUM. This filled us up, but we couldn’t resist a takeout order of Apple Cobbler. Every single bite we had at Jack Allen’s was outstanding!
