We came here with a group of nine and were seated on the second floor. The atmosphere upstairs was great — cozy, with a classic old-fashioned charm that gives the place a lot of character. If you enjoy a restaurant with some history and culture in its design, this is definitely a fun spot to check out.

We ordered a bucket of dirt chicken wings with buffalo sauce. I usually don’t go for buffalo flavor, but theirs was surprisingly good — not too strong, and the wings were tender and not dry at all. The baby back ribs were also tasty and soft, though I wish they had added a bit more sauce to really bring out the flavor. The clam chowder was decent — a little watery for my taste, but still flavorful enough to enjoy. The cocktail I had was also very good and nicely balanced.

Service was excellent throughout our visit. The wings came out fairly quickly, and even though the rest of the food took a bit longer, that’s understandable since we were a big group. Our server was attentive and friendly the entire time.

Parking is available and there’s a decent amount of space, but it fills up fast. We arrived around 5 p.m. on a Thursday and most of the lot was already full, so plan ahead if you’re visiting during busy hours. Overall, great experience — I’d definitely come back!

I have to say I was disappointed by the wings considering the reputation this place has. Got the buffalo sauced wings dirty style and the wings were abnormally large and not crispy at all. The sauce tasted fine but i like a nice normal sized wing thats crispy, not a GMO, mutant looking wing with no crisp.

The sandwich, while good was also unspectacular and the fries taste cheap, like frozen fries from a bag rather than real in house cut potatoes.

The service however was great, I believe our waitress was named Lisa. She was excellent and very attentive.

This place was so good that I made a 2nd trip before I left town! I was in town on a business trip and stopped in on a suggestion from locals. I had the tailgate pretzel and the bourbon steak. Both were cooked perfectly. I returned later in the week on my way to the airport to try their wings, loaded potato kegs and key lime pie. This place is definitely worth the stop and I didn’t find anything with this caliber of food in the area.

J. Timothy’s in Plainville, CT, is more than just a restaurant; it’s an absolute Connecticut institution and the perfect spot for great food and fun. From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional.
The service here is fast and incredibly friendly. Even when the place is packed (which it often is!), the staff is professional, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. You never feel rushed, but your drinks are filled promptly and your food arrives hot.
It’s also a phenomenal place for watching sports. The atmosphere in the bar area is lively and inviting, with a great selection of local and craft beers on tap, making it the ideal setting to catch a game with friends.
But, let’s talk about the food highlight: the “Dirt Style” Wings are a non-negotiable must-try! Voted among the best in the country for a reason, these wings are fried, sauced, then fried and sauced again, creating a caramelized, crispy exterior that locks in amazing flavor. Seriously, do not leave without ordering a bucket of the Dirt Wings—they will change your life!

J. Timothy’s has been our favorite wings in CT for years! We’ve even been to Buffalo, and the wings up there don’t come close to J. Timothy’s. Such a tasty sauce and always cooked perfectly! Their tavern food is always delicious, and we enjoyed their seasonal cocktails on this most recent visit. The staff are attentive and friendly. Love their gift shop too, it made for an easy Christmas gift for my father-in-law! I can’t wait for many more trips back!

Stopped in before going to a show at the Shubert Theater. We ordered the wings to start, the buffalo dry rub and the honey golden bbq. Both flavors were great. Then we tried the fried mozzerella. This take on the fried mozzarella was so tasty. It was topped with marinara and pesto. It was so good. For the main we had the bourbon steak and hot honey chicken sandwich. Both were flavorful and filling! For dessert a slice of cheesecake topped with caramel. Our servers were so polite, very welcoming and attentive.

Went here last night to see what the hype was. In my opinion; are they the best wings? No. Are they the most crispy sauced wings? Yes. Absolutely the best blue cheese I’ve had that complimented the sauce. The tater tot poutine however was phenomenal. A cheese pull in every bite. Dare I say it was better than what I had in Canada. Lastly, the Harry’s Butterbeer drink was so good I wish I had more! My only gripe was I was told it was going to be a 45 min wait, I left my phone number to be texted. I wound up waiting almost an hour and a half and never got a text. Apparently their system glitched and said it sent, but was not the case. I however was seated immediately after explaining the situation.

Stopped in for a late 2pm Lunch on a Saturday in November and the place was hopping. So many cars in the parking lot, and they somehow fit everyone inside this expansive restaurant.

We sat ourselves on the bar side without any wait. The server came over promptly and got a drink order in.

I had to get the dirty Buffalo wings, they were really good. Well cooked and flavorful. Had 10 wings, should have asked for more blue cheese. For a starter I also had the Cheddar Ale soup, which was really good, nice consistency and good beer+Cheddar taste.

Overall, definitely would return if in the area.

Came on a busy Saturday during peak dinner time and the wait was over an hour but was able to sit pretty quickly in the upstairs seating area. Our server was great! The “Frostbite” drink was amazing as well as the wings of course. We got the buffalo and sweet chili – both dirt style as well as a ribeye to share and were very satisfied with our whole meal and experience. Look forward to coming back!

I stopped by J Timothy’s recently to see what all the hype was about. We started with the nachos, which honestly weren’t very impressive — I wish we had gone with a different appetizer.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it a good spot for a casual dinner with friends or family.

They’re known for their “dirt-style” wings, which are fried and sauced, then fried and sauced again. My boyfriend really enjoyed his buffalo wings, but my honey BBQ wings tasted a bit burnt. I know they’re double-fried, but even my boyfriend tried mine and agreed they were noticeably more charred compared to his.

The service was good overall; I just don’t know if I left feeling thoroughly impressed.
