Reviews
The pros: Great atmosphere inside. Quick and friendly service even during lunch. Tasty and toasty sub bread.
The cons: This sandwich left a lot to be desired. Like other reviews have mentioned, the meat portions are offensive. I got the hero sub and there was literally one piece of each meat/cheese- it didn’t even cover the bread. Toppings aren’t listed on the menu, nor are you asked when ordering. It came with lettuce, tomato, onion, and I think Italian dressing, but was dry so I added mayo when I got home. A soggy/leaky ziplock of pickles and whole pepperoncinis were served on the side.
There are many better sandwiches, especially for $12, in central Phoenix. I wouldn’t recommend.
The day I was there they were very busy but they consistently checked in with me to update me on the progress of order. They had lots of locals coming in picking up big orders. They were working hard!
The sandwich was huge. It was not packed to over over-flowing with meat but well balanced over the expansiveness of the large roll. Every bite was yummy. Some have said the bread is burned. Mine was appropriately toasted. The potato salad was savory and tangy.
I would go back there to step again into a more simpler time when restaurants cared about taking care of their customers and providing high quality food at reasonable prices.
Longer version: the south parking lot is not much of a lot, maybe three or four spaces. The north lot is off the busier street and not where I would want to park my car.
There is an outside dining area, but it was dark, looked quite overgrown, and as if it had not been cleaned in a good long while. Not even sure if they allow seating back there – we def did not ask.
It has a nice old-feel interior decor. There were two gals behind the counter and only one other customer (it was about 4 o’clock, so early for dinner). The male customer conversed with us, asking if it was our first time there. He then proceeded to tell us how great it was.
Meh, not so much. The gal who took our order was polite. One thing we noticed but also failed to ask about was for pizza. Their online menu mentioned pizza but neither of us saw that option on the printed menus.
The potato salad side was creamy, the pickle spears were good, and both sandwiches were also.
Again, there was nothing about the experience that really stood out to make us feel like a return visit is needed. Been there, done that.
This was, without question, the worst sandwich we’ve ever had. Why? Because there was almost *nothing* on it. No meat, no cheese, no veggies, not even a sad smear of mayo. Just two dry slices of bread slapped together like someone gave up halfway through making it. I wouldn’t even call it a sandwich—more like a bread disappointment/insult. Save your appetite and your dignity. Skip this one. I honestly don’t know how they are still in business serving stuff like this.
When I called to let them know, the person on the phone had an attitude and told me they “prepped all the meats,” so some might have fallen off. Excuse me? That’s not how sandwiches work. Then she doubled down with a bigger attitude and told me to “just call the owner” if I had a problem—like I magically know who that is or when/how to reach them.
I ordered the $15 “Super Sicilian” which is supposed to have “Genoa salami, cappicoll a, imported ham, Swiss, pepper and provolone cheese, cotto salami and spiced ham.” Instead I got a tiny slice of ham and a tiny slice of salami. Look at the pics!
Bread was good. And the service was fine. But seriously? Look at the pics.
Did they accidentally give me vegan or something?
