Recently I have been traveling back and forth to Dickinson for work and each time someone different has recommended trying this restaurant to me. So on my most recent trip I did just that. I was very pleasantly surprised! I arrived around 5 pm, so early during dinner time. There were few patrons inside at the time, likely because of time and snowy weather. So there was very little noise. I was seated immediately upon entering. I chose the full rack of ribs for my entree, with french fries and coleslaw, which also comes with two pieces of some of the best cornbread I have ever had anywhere! The ribs were very meaty and flavorful, and the table BBQ sauce was very good. Both the fries and coleslaw were excellent as well. The portions were not only excellent, but also plentiful. Had my wife been with me we would have been able to split this meal between the two of us, and likely still had ribs left over. In fact, I boxed enough ribs to have another leftover rib dinner several days later. Kimberly V was my server and she was excellent as well. Very polite, kind and attentive, checking back several times during my visit to make sure I had everything that I needed. The overall restaurant atmosphere was nice. Hard to gauge what it might be like during a busier time, but while I was there it was great! It was relatively quiet with good lighting, comfortable, with nice, soft music playing. I enjoyed my meal there so much that I went back another evening because I wanted to try their Hamburger, which was also excellent! I subsequently went back by a couple of days later and picked up another order of fries, coleslaw and cornbread to finish off my leftover ribs with. And when one considers value as a variable to consider, there is no question that this place is a good value compared to other restaurants in Dickinson, most of which I have tried over the last several months at least once. I can’t say enough good things about JD’s BBQ in Dickinson, and defintely plan to visit again upon my return.

Great service, food was good and the portions were reasonable for pricing. The atmosphere was pretty laid back and fun. Although some of the seating was in disrepair with torn vinyl on booths and chairs. There were several larger tables that would accommodate larger parties and multiple dining rooms. They had indoor and outdoor seating. They had complimentary peanuts but didn’t get to eat many because the service was fast and we had our food pretty quickly! The mild sauce was a tad spicy if you’re truly looking for a mild but it was a perfect flavoring.

The beans!! I don’t eat BBQ beans and we were all fighting over one person’s side. I’ve not had them this good before. Seems like a local mom and pop place. Our brat was good, so was the Hawaiian pulled pork Sammie. Liked the mac and cheese. The BBQ sauce had a huge kick.

How do you coat a fried egg in mayonnaise and make it edible???
I hate mayo and have never once in the 8 times I’ve ordered a burger from J D’s received mayonnaise on any burger. Today I received one with a large amount of mayonnaise and asked for it to be replaced ONLY to be told it was normal and I needed to deal with it and order another one with out mayo.

Going through town, was referred here from the front desk at the Comfort Inn. Just the type of place we like, a place the locals go. Loved the option of multiple meats. My preference was in order: Bratwurst, chicken, brisket, and bonus rib. They were all good though. Had cheese curds and mac-n-cheese (not in the pic) for sides. If you get an option, get the mac-n-cheese. Good selection of beers on tap as well. Did not get our servers name but she was great. She had a South American accent I believe. Super friendly and provided great service. If you like BBQ with some spice and good smoke flavor this was a great stop.

First time eating here I was in the city for 2 days and I’d have to say the food was pretty good, if I ever happen to be in the area again I would dine here again..

For how busy the parking lot always is we were extremely disappointed. Our food came out like warm and we were the 7th small top table in the whole restaurant. The brats are bland, tasted like a cheap hotdog. Caesar dressing tasted sour didn’t put it on my salad or eat my salad. The only saving grace of our experience is the steak and shrimp are seasoned really well. Service was also mediocre at best for having 2+ servers and 7 tables total. Didn’t check on us until the end of our meal and we asked to pay.

Very good smoked chicken. It’s tender and seasoned well.
The brisket is as good as it gets.
I had a to go order and thought the portion size for the chicken could have been a little more generous. I had a small thigh and a drummy. With how tender the meat is it is easy to delete it fast.
Slightly bigger portions would be appreciated but I enjoyed it. Probably the best barbecue I’ve had living in the upper Midwest without seeking out barbecue joints.

I went through all the reviews before I even thought of this place, and seemed delicious. Maybe the day was off or something but I’ve never had such cold meat in my life. Pullpork not even room temp, dry. I asked for chicken and got ribs (not a big deal I just tried the ribs instead) but was not impressed. Compared to the reviews this restaurant has, and the experience i had tonight, it just dont match up. Also, please do something about that braut, or whatever it might be.

This place was awesome! Nothing beats the smell of BBQ on a fall day. The best part? You get peanuts at the table and can toss the shells on the floor. I got the Philly cheesesteak special, and my wife had the Memphis pork sandwich. It was so good!
