The restaurant is solid, foods good, but the highlight was our server. Evan is arguably the best server in there, request him if you end up going! He treated me and my wife amazing, water was constantly full, and his recommendations throughout the night were stellar. Keep up the great work Evan!

I hadn’t been to J. Alexander’s in years, and I’m happy to say it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, the experience was seamless. The hosts were polite, polished, and perfectly put together, welcoming us with a warm greeting and seating us promptly.
Our server matched that same level of professionalism, presenting the daily specials and offering drinks and starters with ease and confidence.
We ordered the Barbecue Baby Back Ribs and the Thai Kai Salad, and both were absolutely phenomenal. So good, in fact, that we couldn’t stop talking about them the entire meal. The ribs were tender and flavorful, and the Thai Kai Salad was fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor.
Top-notch service, excellent food, and a well-run atmosphere, this visit reminded me why J. Alexander’s is such a gem in Overland Park. I won’t be waiting so long to come back next time!

Fantastic prime rib! This Kansas City favorite has an extensive menu with lots of great beef options. My prime rib was excellent and cooked perfectly. Very cool decor as well with dark lighting making it ideal for a date or business dinner. The service was lacking. Our waiter didn’t take our main course order or our menus till after we were served drinks and appetisers which I found odd. Especially because we had to awkwardly move our menus around to accommodate dishes. Our waiter was very aloof when I pointed this out to him, I think was perhaps just an off night but took a star for our experience.

I took our waiters advice, and ordered the grouper. I was disappointed, and didn’t eat it. I ordered a salad. The manager came over and offered me the prime rib, which turned out to be amazing! The cocktails were excellent, and reasonably priced. The carrot cake was out of this world delicious! What could have been a horrible experience turned into a grand-slam. Very well done!
Would come back to Kansas just for the carrot cake!

The service was outstanding. Kyle went above and beyond to make sure everything was right.
I started with the smoked salmon dip and Melba toast. It was almost a meal in and if itself. Subtle smoked flavors, a good balance of flavor and texture.
Then it was onto the grilled swordfish with a roasted jalapeno sauce. Couscous and Parmesan broccoli for sides. They paired well together, complimenting each other.
Finally, the key lime pie, with coffee for dessert.
Generous portions, convenient hours, I was in within 2 minutes of my reservation. Value for price of the food.
When in Overland Park, I will eat here again.

We started with the Alex salad and it is enough to be shared. We enjoyed the shrimp and baby back rib entrees with a mountain of delicious coleslaw. I also had the loaded baked potato which was great! Our server, Tanner , was very knowledgeable about the menu and pleasant. The prices of our drinks and food were very reasonable.

Nestled in a charming corner of the city, this restaurant exudes a cozy atmosphere that invites you to unwind. The ambiance is warm and inviting, enhanced by attentive staff who are eager to ensure a pleasant dining experience. However, despite the glowing online reviews and recommendations, my meal left much to be desired.
I had high hopes, particularly for the Prime Rib, touted as the best in the city. Unfortunately, it was served lukewarm and lacked the depth of flavor I anticipated. In my opinion, both Red Door and Jack Stack offer a far superior version that truly highlights the richness of this classic dish.
I also sampled the KC strip, which, while a great cut of meat, was similarly lukewarm and underwhelming in taste. I’ve had lower-grade steaks that have provided a more satisfying experience, leaving me disappointed with what was served.
Overall, while I appreciate good food and am willing to spend on quality meals and drinks, this experience didn’t justify the price. I left feeling that the hype didn’t match the reality, I even left my leftovers. No thank you, won’t be back.

I normally don’t give 3 stars if I could give 3 in half I would due to the servers. The servers were pleasant and helpful. The food was good and I would give it also a 3 1/2. Atmosphere is nice. The experience was somewhat disappointing while dining in. Let me explain by first stating that it was a huge miscommunication between our party and the general manager(GM). There was no clarity in the way the GM on duty that evening explained the seating arrangement for our party. We were told that we had to set separately due to the size of our group. What was left out was that the table we were also seated at was not apart of our group and we needed to move. All we were told was that there were only two large seating areas and when others arrive they would have to move to that location all the while we were asking while still seated at this table next to one of the large seating areas (why we were so spread out for a large party?) The poor hostess obviously thought we were being difficult yet in actuality we didn’t understand the fullness of the message being delivered. What was later explained, was that the table seated next to one of the larger seating areas that some of our guests were seated at was not meant for any of us and that there were only two large tables at the time of our reservation to accommodate for a party of 15 and that meant we had to sit in two different areas. Once the nice man with patience clarified, we moved from the table. We literally thought that the table next to one of the larger tables was included in our dining for a party of 15 so we could be seated close together. Anyhow, the first GM who came over didn’t take the time to listen to our questions to provide us with clarification. It was noticeable that the GM was flustered by us not moving from the table at first due to the glances of side eye he gave while speaking with some staff up front. I do wish I had the opportunity to speak with him directly to express that it was all about confusion and misunderstanding. The evening turned out well overall and we did appreciate the attentiveness from our servers.

Came by for a last minute dinner and was not expecting to have such a fantastic dinner. Even the price point is surprisingly low compared to other stark house in the area. The Hong Kong shrimp was a fantastic starter. I’d recommend sharing because it is a huge portion of shrimp. For the entree I went with the special which was a horseradish topped Kansas strip. And it was delicious. If it’s on special I highly recommend it. The service and ambience fits a more expensive establishment. Will for sure come back.
