J. Alexander’s in Lexington, KY delivered an excellent dining experience from start to finish. The food was outstanding, with everything coming out perfectly prepared and full of flavor. You can tell there’s a strong focus on quality and consistency, which really shows in every dish. Whether you’re going for a casual meal or something a bit more elevated, this restaurant strikes a great balance between upscale and comfortable.
The real standout, though, was the carrot cake—hands down the best I’ve ever had. It was incredibly moist, perfectly spiced, and topped with a rich cream cheese frosting that wasn’t overly sweet. Each bite was indulgent without being heavy, and it’s absolutely worth saving room for dessert just for this alone.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it a great spot for a nice dinner out, whether with friends, family, or a date. Service was attentive and professional without feeling rushed, which added to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
If you’re dining in Lexington and looking for a place that consistently delivers great food and memorable desserts, J. Alexander’s is a fantastic choice. I’ll definitely be back—especially for that carrot cake.

Wife ordered the Rotisserie Chicken, I ordered a steak, both were really good! Steak could have been thicker, I like a good thick steak, but it was good regardless! Service was great, atmosphere was good, we will definitely go back

We tried this restaurant for the first time in years. Everyone is given water on top of their drink choice. I prefer water in general so I didn’t get another drink. I am an ice fan but the given waters did not have ice, so they were closer to room temp. It was a group of 7 and the waitress initially mentioned someone would be helping her. No one else stopped by to assist during our time there. Our drinks went empty multiple times. Many in our table ordered a “side salad”. However, when received they were full salads that we were charged $14 for. They also messed up the salad for one in our group, so they had to remake it. I ordered the “Crispy Shrimp Tacos” special. Unfortunately, it had cilantro and tomatoes on it, which was not advertised on the menu, and I like neither. A manager did stop by to check on us at one point, which was appreciated. Overall, the value was not there. I would choose competitors 10 out of 10 times

Had a fantastic time/meal. We ordered the filet mignon, which is the best compared to any steakhouse I’ve ever been.
The Thai salad they have is superb to add.
Our server Carly was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very helpful. We were also greeted by the manager Alan, who was kind enough to come and say hello. Love seeing a restaurant ambiance with its staff so intertwined for the dining experience. Per our anniversary, we received a complimentary carrot cake which is nothing short of fantastic, super balanced and not overly sweet.
Thank you for the experience, we’ll be back.

I got the steak Maui. I’ve had it at another J. Alexander and it was amazing. I ordered it here and the flavor was good but was very fatty. I also had to flag someone down to get a refill.
My husband took me there to celebrate a special occasion. His prime rib also had quite a bit of fat. Just not like the one I had previously and very disappointing.

Went for father’s birthday and they had a birthday card ready for him. The entire meal was very fast and efficient and our server did a good job. Ordered the Alex’s salad without tomatoes and croutons and extra cilantro vinaigrette. The dressing is definitely the star of the salad. There isn’t a whole lot of bacon and that flavor doesn’t really come out much. Also got the prime rib medium rare with a loaded backed potato (they forgot to make it loaded but I just asked to bring the fixins on the side so I could add). The au jus of the prime rib was great but the prime rib could’ve had a much better cook on the outside and was one of those pieces where there was hidden gristle (which is to no fault of the chef). I’ve had the prime rib here before and it was fantastic but this time was very average. They also gave a birthday carrot cake that was good although wish there was ice cream on top of it instead of the icing which was bit too sweet for our liking

My husband and I ate here for the first time today. I ordered the rotisserie chicken and my husband ordered the chicken tenders. The smashed potatoes were the best I have had. Everything was delicious. Our server, Johnathan was awesome. We highly recommend this place.

I ate here after church today. The food was great. The service was both quick and attentive. The atmosphere was nice.
The only negative thing I could say is the chairs for the tables look like they should be in a business office not a restaurant. They looked comfortable but I can’t tell you if they are since we sat in a booth.

My husband and I ate here for our Wedding Anniversary and it was our first time dining at J. Alexander’s Restaurant. We were greeted by a very respectful and pleasant young woman. She gave us an Anniversary card that all the servers/staff signed that night. That was a surprise in itself! The atmosphere was very beautiful, low light, private, and intimate. The servers were amazing and the food/dessert was OUTSTANDING!! I highly recommend it.
