We were happened in the area last summer and kiddo wanted some sushi. We arrived during lunch time on Saturday and were seated immediately. Our kiddo wanted to sit at the bar facing the river with boats. The weekend special was very affordable: 3 rolls for $33. The rolls were big and the fish slices were thick.
– California Roll: good flavor but I preferred to have thinner rice layer.
– 5 Star Roll: delicious. The sashimi pieces weren’t fishy and the shrimp tempura was crispy. The sauce was good – not too much.
– Dragon Roll: my favorite. The unagi and shrimp tempura are my favorite combo in a roll. The sauce was just enough & not overwhelming.
– Pork Katsu don: The pork katsu was tender and the sauce was good. The portion was quite generous even hubby said that he was stuffed.

I visited today with my daughter, she had the avocado roll and loved it. I ordered the Ramen in Tonkotsu broth. When I got my bowl I was disappointed there was no soft boil egg. I proceeded to taste the broth and the taste was very familiar, the noodles were thin as mentioned in the menu, but they looked and tasted cheap. I proceeded to slurp away. I thought the ramen was just ok. I then went to the bathroom and I saw cartons of shelf bought Tonkotsu ramen, same we get at Costco. I then realized why the flavor and noddles were familiar. We go to Japanese restaurant to eat food we cannot make at home or otherwise is too difficult to make at home. That ramen soup was not worth the $15.75, specially after seeing it is no more than over the shelf item…. I miss japan.

I came here for lunch with my boyfriend and we had FANTASTIC service! Everyone was so polite and welcoming. We were seated right away and our food came out quickly! I had the Rocklin Roll and Philly Roll and he had the 3 item bento box. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful!

Came here the other night for some dinner with my family. Had a good time. We were really hungry so we ordered 5 rolls and could only finish 3 of them. The rolls are really big (not complaining). Next time we’ll only order 3.
This place feels more authentic than other places around here. They do have a sushi boat river. They would have the biggest crowd in town for lunch if they used it.

Izumi is a gem from over the years. Coming back to the area, I was so happy with the size and flavor of the rolls. Even the Five Star and Rocklin roll are staples to Izumi and still so good! Their bento box is awesome too. Very simple ambience in restaurant and very nice team who works here. I saw a sign that they and the best tempura shrimp from a magazine review – And I didn’t think much of it. But they were right – super crunchy and quality batter.

($$) three stars off the bat for environment, location and service. The service was prompt and efficient, if not friendly (I ordered TOGO). The atmosphere is typical of a sushi place – utilitarian and decorated in cultural accents. The sushi boat moat that travels around the main dining bar is a nice touch. I made my selections from the 50% discount menu, a trend among sushi restaurants in this part of the country. I tried the Roseville roll, the Guru roll and the River Cat roll – each roll less than $8.25 for a total of $25 and change for the 3 rolls. That is comparable to other local sushi spots that offer similar menus. Each roll was colorful and had no hint of a fishy smell. The ingredients were tasty and meshed well in my mouth. No complaints here and a satisfied belly earned the fourth star.
