The sushi and sashimi were quite good and they were making them fresh there, as well as the Mongolian grill items, which were my favorite though there was a lot of oil added. The ice cream is labeled mochi ice cream, which it was not and it all looked quite old with signs of all of it thawing and refreezing which causes visible separation in the individual cups. The food on the hot table was decent, but much of the meat was pretty dry and many did not have much flavor.
We came right at 5:00pm when it opened for the dinner gour. It had been closed from 3-5 after lunch. When we walked up, there was food on the sidewalk that looked messy, the restroom smelled nice but it was also not clean and the dining area was fine. I was surprised that things had not been picked up a bit in the time between lunch and dinner.
If the price was less, the other things would it matter as much but the cost for dinner is $20.50 per person per person. For me, if I am going someplace to pay that much, I expect that it will be a bit more fancy and I’m good repair. Making a few updates on the interior and keeping areas clean during service would enhance the atmosphere and the over all dining experience. Also, keeping the hot foods heated a bit better and ensuring they are not overcooked.
Now this may seem odd – I don’t eat raw fish, and there are still plenty of types of sushi there that I like – vegetarian and cooked seafood. The other three people I usually go with love sushi of all types and love to go there. Everything I’ve had from the hot bar has been good, and one of our party recently tried the Hibachi bar and said it was the best choice in the restaurant.
It’s a very casual place – don’t worry, as long as you’re dressed, they’ll let you in. The buffet is about $25 apiece with a soft drink. Kids are welcome, but there have never been so many there that they’re obtrusive in my experience.
I gave service as a four because like most oriental places I’ve been, they pester you to take your used dishes. Also, since it’s a buffet, there’s not a lot for them to do except bring drinks and refills. And I gave atmosphere a 3. I mean, it’s a fairly inexpensive buffet; what do you expect?
It’s a staple for my group. We like it there, and everybody finds something they like. Personally, I recommend it.
Well worth another visit.
There was a live roach crawling directly on a plate of salmon sushi. I was shocked. One staff member tried to grab it, but I couldn’t tell if it was actually caught. I asked that the affected sushi be thrown away, as there was clearly a high chance of contamination beyond just that one plate.
Unfortunately, I was dining with a guest and did not want to cause a scene, so I calmly spoke to the manager/owner instead. His response was simply, “I don’t know,” which was very concerning and dismissive given the seriousness of the situation.
What made it worse was noticing the overall cleanliness of the space. My child pointed to the ceiling vents, and when I looked up, I saw visible black mold around multiple vents. This raises serious concerns about sanitation and air quality.
Restaurants have a responsibility to maintain proper hygiene to protect public health. This place clearly needs immediate sanitation improvements. For health reasons, this will be my last visit.
