Dimly lit izakayas– with the buzzing energy of a day’s work well done, where new and old connections are strengthened– line street corners in Japan. The faint scent of smoke from the yakitori charcoal grill along with the chatter and laughter of friends and family, fills the air. Their abundance of alcohol and simple, classic cuisine, makes izakayas the perfect place to enjoy an easy, and special meal. Izakaya Osen transports and elevates the authentic tastes and flavors of Japan to Silverlake and now Irvine, offering the finest Japanese sakes with the freshest seafood available. We provide premium sushi and sashimi, raw bar, and Japanese fusion dishes that are new, unique, and innovative to the culinary landscape of Southern California.
Both raw & cooked food (sushi, noodles, seared fish) star at this traditional Japanese izakaya.

If you haven’t been to Izakaya Osen in Silverlake, you’re seriously missing out. This cozy spot has some of the best sushi, skewers, and Japanese comfort food in the city.
Everything we ordered:
✨ Miso Crab Salmon — my all-time favorite dish here, always a must
Baby Octopus Karaage — perfectly crispy and tender
Premium Chirashi — beautifully plated with layers of fresh fish over sushi rice
Beef Tantan Nabe with Udon Noodles — cozy, rich, and full of flavor
Skewers — Sea Bass, Beef, and Bacon-Wrapped Enoki Mushrooms
Yuzu Sorbet — super light and refreshing
Matcha Mochi Coconut Cake with Green Tea Ice Cream — the perfect ending
Came in for the Dine LA set menu and it was a great snapshot of what they do best. Salmon tsumire soup to start, followed by halibut with mizuna, seared toro with caviar and gold flakes, premium nigiri, golden eye snapper, amaebi with uni and caviar, yellowtail, and a really solid miso Chilean sea bass. Everything was clean, well balanced, and thoughtfully prepared.
I skipped dessert and opted for a few extra pieces of nigiri instead, which felt like the right call. Fish quality was on point across the board.
Also worth noting, their sister restaurant Omakase by Osen will be taking over this Silver Lake space, with Izakaya Osen moving just a few doors down on Sunset. Looking forward to seeing how both evolve.
Reliable, high quality, and always a good meal. Easy place to recommend.
Prices are a bit high, but quality of food is impeccable. Standout dishes include the classic negima yakitori ($6.50), the unagi toro bowl ($39), and the salmon avocado makimono ($12). The tsukune ($7.95) was a bit overpriced and not worth it. Service was attentive, and we enjoyed drinking their Orion bin beer (large bottle at $15).
All in all, authentic and enjoyable place as long as you’re willing to spend for it!
Among the chaos of Sunset Blvd, OSEN is worth making the drive. Every single dish on the menu has been perfected. It’s freshness you can taste and the quality is unmatched. Beef Tongue & Sea Bass Kushiyaki was grilled and sauced to perfection. Beef Tantan Nabe was comfort with every slurp of udon noodles in that creamy broth. Fresh Shigoku Oysters w/ ponzu jelly, kizami shiso, and yuzu powder was the tang I needed. Perfect bites of Toro Uni was unbelievable bite of texture and flavor. Miso Crab Salmon was 5 pieces of deliciousness. Now let’s talk about a MUST ORDER is the Uni Amaebi Bowl which included everything from sea urchin, caviar, sweet shrimp, scallop, ikura, shoyu marinated egg yolk, makombu, takuan, chive, sesame oil, sesame seeds, served with organic Kajime nori. Remember your extra tummy for dessert? Get the Amato Special is dried persimmon with cream cheese and warm matcha mochi cake served with matcha ice cream. Crazy good!
Dripping with food coma, Izakaya Osen Silver Lake is one of those places that it’s worth it and I can see why it’s Judy’s favorite spot.
Pro tip: parking can be tricky, so plan ahead. Highly recommend for a date night or treat-yourself meal.
The space is cozy and great for a date night or dinner with friends. Service is friendly and quick, too.
Definitely a go-to if you’re craving good Japanese food. I’ll for sure be back!
