What makes this resteraunt so special and unique is the charismatic owner. He absolutely strives to give you tge best service and wants to show you what true mexican good is all about. We got tge tour de Mexico and I was pleased with the different options he brought to us because normally neither of us would order the things he brought. The chicken adobada is perfection I was impressed with the tamales they were probably the first ive eatten at a resteraunt that were authentic. Sweet potatoes dessert is a banger as well. I recommend this place highly

Oh my I can’t say enough about the authentic food here!! Everything was amazing.. you can’t go wrong. If you have a question the staff will amaze you with their knowledge of the food. Try a tamal… They are best I’ve had in my life!!! Seriously!!! And the flan was top notch!! It’s a must try too!!! Oh wait I forgot how amazing there margaritas are! . Like I said you can’t go wrong with anything you order!

So I’m visiting KC and my friends and I wanted Mexican food. This place is in walking distance so we went not expecting anything other then normal American Mexican food. BUT it was not!! The owner was very informative and charismatic when talking about his food and it inspired me to order the Pork Special! Some of the BEST food I’ve ever had, especially authentic Mexican food! I wish I lived closer so I could go back more often. Will definitely stop by next time I’m in town!

I had Pollo de last crema. It came out piping hot. It was wonderfully savory and the vegetables were cooked perfectly (not overcooked). The server and owner (chef?) Were friendly and I enjoyed our visit. Inhave never had a bad meal here.

Ok, if you like “authentic” fine Mexican eats, come in. If you like Taco Bell, go there. Lots of options around, good ones, Maya is good, the place in Parkville Tapatio is good, but THEY ARE ALL different styles. I’d categorize the above 2 as more “American/Mexican” … Cheese dips And menu items most can understand…. IXTAPA is it’s own vibe, authentic, the owner will come out and check on ya, a little local staple been here for over 20 years. I’d never been in. I got the steak tacos tapatios and a classic margarita. The steak had a unique seasoned flavor that hit perfectly with the char in the in-house made, soft corn tortillas. The atmosphere was pleasant, quaint, and without a bar, but they do sell most of your imported Mexican bottle beers and make a pretty classic margarita not heavy at all on that syrup taste. I’ll be back, these spots, when a staple on a busy corner for over 20 years in these days and times, says something!

If you want truly amazing Mexican cuisine, look no further than Ixtapa. Amazingly flavorful dishes showcasing real Mexican cuisine. No yellow cheese here. No really, the owner will absolutely explain why. If you want to experience what real Mexican cuisine tastes like, this is your place. Try the Pork Special, Arroz con Pollo, Tacos Tapatios, Pollo Enchipotlado or any other wonderful dish on their menu. I eat here almost weekly and have never had a bad meal.

Average to below average food. My steak was thin, tough and chewy. Although the flavor was ok, it was just a very poor cut of beef. Cost was too high for the size of portions and quality. Service was just average too. Tried this restaurant for the first time because the reviews sounded good, but definitely failed to meet the quality described.

Absolutely love this place. Had the best dining experience tonight. We were greeted by the owner. Were asked about our favorite typical dishes. Recommended orders and we were all blown away by how delicious it was. This is my experience every time. Hands down the best Mexican food in the KC metro and incredible service.
