Social Profile:

For over a century, patrons have found comfort in this historic inn nestled in the heights of the Meadowlands. Opened in the 1870’s as a stagecoach inn, travelers in horse and carriages riding along Polifly Road (later named Terrace Avenue) stopped here to eat and drink in the tavern below and sleep in one of six guest rooms above. After the turn of the 20th Century the Inn evolved into a fine dining restaurant (a popular speakeasy during Prohibition). In 1996, the restaurant undertook an extensive renovation and reopened as the Ivy Inn on Valentine’s Day 1997. Now under new ownership, the Ivy Inn still carries the same great charm and food that it has for decades.

Ivy Inn Restaurant & Bar is one of those rare places that instantly feels like a hidden gem. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warmth, elegance, and an atmosphere that’s truly one of a kind. But what makes the experience exceptional is the heart behind it: Mark Padovano.

Mark isn’t just a great owner he’s a genuine host. His level of service, attention to detail, and the way he makes every guest feel welcome are truly outstanding. You can tell when someone loves what they do, and it shows in every plate, every interaction, and every moment inside Ivy Inn.

The food is incredible, the ambiance is flawless, and the overall experience consistently goes above and beyond. It’s a place you return to not just because the food is amazing… but because it feels special to be there.

Thank you, Mark, for always delivering quality, care, and a memorable experience.
Absolutely recommended.

Outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was classic American done right—bold flavors, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. Every dish came out hot, fresh, and well-balanced.

The atmosphere was welcoming and lively without being overwhelming, making it a great spot for both a relaxed dinner or a night out. What really stood out was the service—attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable without ever feeling rushed.

You can tell this place takes pride in both its food and its guests. Easily one of the better American dining experiences I’ve had recently. I’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a solid, memorable meal.

I had noticed the façade of this place for quite some time, as it always caught my attention, and I decided to choose it to celebrate my friend’s birthday with a dinner. As good Dominicans, we were looking for a dish full of flavor, and since I personally love lamb, I chose the lamb and recommended it to my friend, who had never tried it before—she absolutely loved it. The service was excellent; the ladies who attended us provided exceptional service, and the cosmopolitans were incredible.

The food and atmosphere is always nice and cozy here. The drinks and food are honestly what keeps me coming back. The history is cool and it gives off prohibition vibes. The head of staff is always so accommodating and you can tell she works hard for the restaurant.

Ivy Inn was a great experience overall! The staff was very attentive and service was quick. The food was excellent as well… I’d recommend the roasted lamb or the Honey Dijon glazed salmon.

The best part about the restaurant was the warm welcoming feeling of the atmosphere. Mark and Rebecca (owners) did a fantastic job at making it a people and family friendly vibe.

Can’t wait to go back and try the pizza. I hear that’s amazing too!

They have a very lovely garden. The interior also looked cozy and good. However, I wanted to give 4 stars in the beginning when I saw their dirty chairs and tables outside.

The staff was very kind. When she gave me glasses upside down on the dirty table, I wanted to give 3 stars.

When she served my soup, and she gave me a spoon on the menu, I wanted to give them 2 stars. You know, the menu was dirty, it had been touched by all the customers, and you don’t want to put your spoon on the menu. Finally, when I tasted the French onion soup, I didn’t want to give them even just one star since I hated too salty food.

However, the next two meals of the 3 courses set were getting better, and I thought the price was right ranged, I decided to give 4. I am normally very generous for Google reviews.

I ended up giving 3 because the paper of the plate of the fish and chips colored the fish, and we felt we ate some toxic chemicals. We gently let the staff know about the red coloring paper, and the staff did not seem to care at all.

This was our first time dining heater. We sat at the bar and had exceptional service. Amanda, our bartender, took great care of us, and the drinks were well made. The food we ordered was delicious and we could not say more about this wonderful establishment. Highly recommended.

We had reservations for 2/13, the night before Valentine’s Day. Reservations made through their online app. We frequented this restaurant often about 15 years ago, before we moved. Now that we live in the area again, I was excited to visit again. The restaurant is still as lovely as ever. We were seated upon arrival. When our server approached us, we found ourselves in a guessing game of what his age was, at his urging. After a few wrong guesses, we were informed he was just 16, and in fact, he’d only been working 3 weeks, and was still on training wheels. Yes, everyone has to start somewhere. Yes. But, when you’re at a self described upscale restaurant and a couple can be expected to pay in the $200 range for a dinner with cocktails, perhaps a seasoned staff member who can actually discuss the drink menu, and deliver those drinks may be in order. He approached the table for our order 2 times in the first 5 minutes. We gave him our drink order, which someone else delivered. We then gave him our dinner order. When the mussels fra diavolo were delivered by a runner, who dropped and ran, it was apparent that the mussels were served in the wrong sauce. Our inexperienced server never approached the table to check on our first course. It was completed and the table cleared before he returned with our entree. We informed him that the mussels were wrong. He apologized. The mussels were very good. The calamari was good, the sauce was simple. The lamb chops were cooked to order and very good. The accompanying gnocchi were dry and salty. The steamed vegetables were fresh but bland. The stuffed chicken breast was not moist, the sauce was good. We ordered dessert to go. The pistachio cake was delicious. A gentleman touched our table, I assume he was either the manager or owner. He asked how everything was. I made a decision at that time not to remark on the inexperience of our server, or his timing mistakes, or the mussels mistake. No reason to assume he wouldn’t have corrected it, but with such close tables full of guests, I chose not to go into it at that time. I have searched for an email address but couldn’t locate one. When the check came, I was a little surprised that the dessert wasn’t comped. I was also surprised to see a reduced menu with 5 apps and 5 or 6 entrees available. I know OpenTable prompts restaurants to post if they are having a special menu for holidays. I have always loved Ivy Inn, and I want to keep doing that. I know the trials of working through a holiday rush, so I can easily forgive the shortcomings of the kitchen. I also think a 16 year old, in a place that says they are hiring, and all candidates must have 3 years fine dining experience, shouldn’t be working a holiday or have as big a section as he had. I really hope this experience was simply a one off night, and the next time will be better. I will go back, to see..
