You can go plain Jane or as crazy & adventurous as you want. Their all-beef hot dogs come with an unlimited amount of toppings and sauces of your choosing. You can even put baked beans, Mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes topped with gravy on it if you wanted to. It’s also cool that Itsurweiner has a variety of dry seasonings like Old Bay and celery salt that you can sprinkle on your hot dog as well.
What did I get? Black bean salsa + tomatoes + cilantro lime sauce on hot dog no. 1 and chili + dill pickles + Dijon mustard on hot dog no. 2.
Since Itsurweiner is right in the middle of Tiger Town, it’s fitting that it has a sports bar type of atmosphere with big screen tvs playing various sports throughout the place.
The food was surprisingly delicious—comforting, hearty, and exactly what I needed. I had one of their signature hot dogs, and it was packed with flavor, reminding me of the simpler meals I used to enjoy in my younger days, but with a modern twist. The staff were incredibly friendly, making sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed.
It’s a place where people of all ages can come together and have a good time. Even at my age, it’s nice to try something new and feel welcomed by such a vibrant community. I might not be the typical customer here, but I left with a smile on my face and a full stomach.
I had the mushroom Swiss burger with caramelized onions and jalapeños. The hubs had the 2 hot dog special for $6.99 with fresh cut fries and it was delicious ! The decor was amazing and w even got the VIP tour from the owner Bonnie to the downstairs bar area with also doubles as an event venue.
We definitely will be back! We loved everything about it!
Eventually, the owner who is an older man known as “Mr. Wien” came over and picked up an empty can of Mom Water Seltzer that I had placed on the bar. Instead of calmly addressing it, he immediately demanded I leave, claiming they didn’t sell that brand. I tried to explain that it was empty, I didn’t realize it was an issue, and that I had been waiting patiently to be served. I was calm and respectful. He told me to come around the bar so I complied. Immediately when I began speaking to him he was aggressive and hostile while I was nothing but calm, respectful, and apologetic. He began yelling at me in front of other patrons, pointing at a sign that says “outside alcohol prohibited” (as if that excuses his treatment). Instead of listening and speaking to me like a human, he further escalated it by continuing to yell at me and accuse me of sneaking it in, and ultimately threatening to call the police if I didn’t leave. Completely unnecessary.
Let me be clear: This was never about the can. This was about how I was disrespected, talked down on and ultimately humiliated by a grown man who chose to exert power over a 5’4”, 110-pound 21-year-old girl who posed no threat and was doing nothing wrong. I left in tears, not because I was bitter I “got kicked out,” but because I was publicly aggressively confronted and degraded for a small and honest mistake that could’ve been resolved with one sentence.
If you value being treated with basic respect or if you’re a young woman who doesn’t want to be deliberately singled out and screamed at by a man three times your age look elsewhere.
