The ambience was exactly what I had hoped for, cosy, relaxed vibes, and even though it was early on a weeknight there were still tables in so it wasn’t quiet.
The food – i had the carpaccio and then carbonara with chicken, and my partner had meatballs then the chicken with spaghetti.
The carpaccio tasted very fresh and there was a good amount, but really the stand out for me was my carbonara – it was by far the best carbonara i’ve ever had, it was excellent. We had fries to share also and they were perfect. I tried some of my partners meatballs and the chicken and spaghetti and the tomato sauce for the meatballs and spaghetti was delicious and the meatballs were melting in my mouth, and the chicken wasn’t tough at all, i was using my spoon to get a piece!
And we didn’t even order a dessert but got one as a surprise complete with sparkler, it was such a wonderful way to end the meal.
I highly recommend this place and would definitely come back! Thank you all so much for making us feel special!
For mains, my friend ordered the gnocchi Sorrentina, which was rich, comforting, and perfectly cooked. I went for the linguine alla Scoglio with extra chilli – and it was absolutely spot-on. The seafood was fresh, the pasta was al dente, and the extra heat gave it just the right kick.
The service was exemplary throughout. Attentive without being intrusive, and when my friend couldn’t finish her meal, they kindly offered a doggy bag without hesitation – a thoughtful touch that showed real hospitality.
Overall, the food was excellent, the portions generous, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Highly recommend this place if you’re craving a quality Italian meal with great service to match.
However, a seemed like manager came to our table to introduce the menu. While trying to be welcoming, he made a comment without asking our nationality, saying: “I know you all Chinese like seafood.”
I felt extremely uncomfortable being stereotyped based on appearance and assumed nationality. The way the menu was introduced also felt a bit awkward almost as if we were first-time tourists or needed the most basic explanations like “this is pasta, this is pizza, this is fish,” even though the menu descriptions were already perfectly clear.
For context I’ve lived in the UK for nearly 8 years. It was unsettling to be treated as a traveller simply because of my look and skin tone. That said, I do recognise he may genuinely have just been trying to be hospitable.
As for the seafood platter he recommended it was very average. The seafood itself wasn’t particularly fresh or impressive, and the flavours were quite generic. The items he highlighted also felt like the most basic choices rather than something worth showcasing.
To be honest, the seafood I was “assumed to love” ended up being the most underwhelming part of the meal.
Food:
The food was DELICIOUS. They even came to ask if anyone needed extra black pepper and cheese, which they grounded and grated by request. I did get to try what everyone else ordered, so I have them listed down below (the first was mine):
– Ravioli Aragosta (a bit spicy for me, but definitely not spicy at all for the Asians in our group. The portion was also visibly smaller than the rest, perfect for those with a smaller appetite)
– Spaghetti Carbonara (I asked them to remove pancetti, and add chicken pieces. The chicken was a tad dry though.)
– Minestrone
– Pappardelle Polpette (juicy meatballs)
– Rigatoni Italiana
– Salmone Adriatico (Salmon was cooked just nice. The second time there, they were out of salmon and they substituted with seabass, it was just as good)
– Stinco di Agnello (a bit too lamby for my taste, but everyone else loved it)
I think there’s options for everyone, depending on their taste, so this place worked amazing for our group, so we went there twice:)
Service:
Staff was helpful and friendly. The manager (I assumed) did his best to accommodate us, and even the waiter & waitress was tiptop (shout out to Soukayna for being so helpful with her suggestions and wittiness entertaining us).
The restaurant’s decor, the cake, and the food created a warm, celebratory atmosphere. My sister was submitting her master’s thesis on the same day and wasn’t initially in a celebratory mood, but the team made the day unforgettable. I had the Spaghetti Aragosta e Gamberoni and asked for extra chili and a slice of lemon, and Ericka provided it quickly with a friendly, helpful attitude, her service was great as well. Compliments to the chef too: my sister had the gluten- free pizza and said it was the best she’s ever had!
Thank you again, Salvador, we will definitely be back. It’s service like this that makes places truly memorable!
I had an amazing experience at Italian Fifty Five in Manchester, and a huge part of that was thanks to Souki. From the moment we were seated, she was warm and welcoming.
She checked in at all the right times, made sure everything was perfect, and brought a friendly energy.
The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was lovely.
