Chorizo is handmade. All menu items are prepared for you by Israel, who traveled throughout Mexico and Central America to collect regional recipes. Everything is fresh, unique and delicious.
The portions are well worth the price.
Claire is a wonderful server, personable and professional.
A small restaurant with Huge taste.
Nothing like it in New Albany.
Shown in the picture are :
Burrito Ahogado Chardonnay (forefront) and Burrito Delicias

The food here is nothing like usual Tex Mex that’s found in this area, which for me wasn’t a good thing, but clearly some folks really like it, judging by the reviews. To me it was very bland, and instead of using the usual white American cheese that every other Mexican restaurant uses, they use something more along the lines of Velveeta. It’s definitely much lower quality than El Nopal.

I will say that the sour cream was delicious, the portions were very large, and Claire was an excellent and delightful server. Plus the to-go container charge was only 10 cents, which is no big deal.

Hands down the best Hispanic food in the area (that includes Louisville!) Best Chorizo I’ve ever had! Also, that green salsa I could drink out of a cup. Do yourself a favor and get the three different salsas. I will not go to any other Mexican restaurant from here on out!

What a find. If only I lived in the area, I’d be taking all my friends here. Had the Mayan burrito … had to be 12″ or longer, choke full of tender moist pork, rice, beans, and plantains. Definitely hand crafted. Service was stellar. What a great experience. And don’t let the exterior turn you away. The interior shines.

Israel’s is truly deserving of 5 stars. The food is phenomenal; it tastes great and looks great. The portions are more than plentiful and through several trip the service has been amazing. Plates are about 20$ and there is a fee for plate sharing. The menu offers a wide variety of authentic Hispanic cuisine. Go there and enjoy!

I ordered the Veggie Enchiladas and my partner ordered the Mayan Burrito. Both were excellent in quality, plated beautifully, and HUGE portions! Will absolutely be back. Thank you to Chef Israel for the one of the best dinners in town!

This place is an amazing example of fine gourmet Mexican cuisine as you will find anywhere.

We had the queso fundido as an appetizer. This is an amazing dish of mushrooms, onions, corn and chorizo blanketed in melted queso. There are freshly made fried corn tortilla points around the perimeter of the dish, plus extras. This was an amazing,8ng starter.

For entrees we both ordered their signature dish, a “drunken” burrito. He has steak while I had mine filled with the most delicious chorizo I’ve ever eaten. Our server said the owner makes it himself. These burritos were so large we asked for carryout boxes because we couldn’t finish them all. Delish!

For drinks we had their house made sangria and it was also amazing. Our server brought us spoons to dig out the fruit from the bottoms of the large glasses.

This is a truly gourmet restaurant and I hope everyone reading this review goes to try it out.

Mouth watering food with huge portions. Great service, atmosphere great I’d probably play some music that matches the vibe tho not just have a radio open. Decorations are amazing, chair a bit too heavy but looks great. All in all, this is definitely I place I will frequent, because WOW the food was amazing
