I am searching the best piazza Margherita in San Diego.
I went to Izola because many times I have been passing by and watching peoples plates and decided to try for myself.
1. Pizza dough was good
2. When I was taking the slice the tomato sauce and the cheese were going down which is not a good sign, but was not dripping down as in many other places. I guess it needed to be backed a few more seconds.
3. The mozzarella was good
4. Tomato sauce was good
5. Price was reasonable
6. Location of the restaurant is perfect
7. Service was great
Overall I do recommend it would be back.

Great find in Little Italy. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were exactly what we needed after a long day of walking around a conference. Very relaxing and service was warm and friendly.
As for the food, everything we had was wonderful. Our favorites were the brussel sprouts starter and gluten-free gnocchi. Neither of us have issues with gluten at all but it sounded great so we ordered it. It did not disappoint. Their family makes wine so we chose a bottle from their winery. Perfect compliment to our meal.
If you are visiting downtown San Diego, skip the gaslamp district and head to Isola Pizza Bar in Little Italy. It is worth the walk/uber ride!

The worst pizza I’ve ever eaten. The middle was extremely thin and soggy. The “pancetta” was just uncooked bacon strips. The mushrooms were watery, sautéed with no flavor. The crust edges were thick, and the dough inside was still raw. Very disappointing experience.

Went there for the first time today and it did not disappoint. We had margherita with mozzarella DOP and Quattro formaggi, which the latter was not on the menu. The ambience was very cozy just like Italy having tables indoors and outdoor. My wife and I will definitely go back to try the flavors of pizza and possibly try their wine. Arrivederci!

This is the second time I have visited, and yet again well worth the hike. The crust has the right balance of crispness and doughy-ness. Not too much cheese. Well balanced meats.
The outdoor seating is pleasant!
Service is prompt and friendly.

Timmy Doesn’t Share Food
Isola is doing what a neighborhood pizza bar should be doing—serving up great wine, solid service, and pizza that doesn’t disappoint. The house wines? Surprisingly excellent for house pours—I’d come back for those alone. Sat at the bar and had a great experience—friendly, attentive, but not overbearing. And the pizza? Crisp, flavorful, and exactly what you want when carbs are calling your name.
Is it the best in San Diego? Maybe not. But it hits all the right notes and is well worth a stop if you’re in Little Italy.

Definitely one of my wife’s and I favorite pizza spot we love there wood smoke oven pizza with home made dough and a very tasty red sauce they have the perfect amount of sauce, cheese , and dough ratio. I am a little bummed that they don’t have beer on tap nor do they have a cheese board with multiple cheeses.I’m yet to try there other dishes but soon we will. We always sit at the bar and Tamara who is the bartender helped us and she makes an amazing espresso martini so good, the house red is also good. The restaurant is clean and staff is attentive bathrooms are hidden I’ll let you figure that out on your own. I recommend to give it a try and remember ask for an espresso martini…..
