This place is awesome, fresh food, friendly people… Great jamaican patties, and for around 11 or 12 bucks you get all the food in the picture and it was amazing.

I hate posting negative reviews, but here goes… I went to island restaurant for breakfast a couple months ago and was severely disappointed in the quality of the food. The ackee and saltfish I ordered was cold, bland, overly salty, and swimming in oil. Most of it ended up in the garbage… If I wasn’t starving after a hectic workout I wouldn’t have eaten it at all.

And the service! again, never the best, but this time it was just terrible. This place never had the best Jamaican food, but it at least used to be decent. As someone in the neighborhood for almost 20 years, I’m hoping the team there can pick the quality back up. There’s a lot more competition for Jamaican food in Kendall now, and any one of them provides a significantly better experience than my last couple visits to Island Restaurant.

Their jerk chicken is good, but what is really amazing here is the oxtail. It is perfectly cooked and delicious. Also the interior of this place is very colorful to say the least; it reminds me of multiple restaurants in the Carribean. Also when you’re here you feel very laid back and can understand why Jamaicans are always so laid back and on “Carribean time” so it allows you to enjoy your meal.

I will give a rating of three ONLY because of the foul smell that eminates from their restroom which is adjacent to a their kitchen. While their customer service and food are good, it is difficult for my husband and I to dine at this establishment. This is a situation, I believe that should be taken care of immediately.

The lady at the front counter is probably the rudest individual I ever met! All I said was mild Jamaican patty and she said we don’t have none in the rudest tone I immediately ran out first time here and the very last time. Sucks because I recommend here for their patties smh

Disappointed, went there for mother’s day with friend , her daughter, my godchild, and my fiance, they were serving from off the menu and 3 specials, we ordered off the menu, rather than the specials and the curry goat was barely warm and under cooked, the dahlpouri roti was uniquely unique, my fiance’s was the same and his order of white rice was mushy and salty. Ordered a side of fried Johnny cakes, obviously cooked ahead as was room temperature. My godchile ordered the saltfish cookup, which came with boiled dumpling, banana, and Johnny cake, and my friend ordered ackee and saltfish boiled dumpling, banana, and Johnny cake. Not the same quality that I’ve been used to for the last 20+ years…….
