Reviews
The food was delicious and perfectly prepared, with a presentation that was spot on. The portions were huge, which is a great value. Everything was also reasonably priced, a welcome bonus these days. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious drinks and the most beautiful atmosphere. Dining here offers an incredible view of the ships in the Bay. We can’t wait to go back!
However, the experience started on a slightly off note — the hostesses didn’t greet us, so we ended up greeting them first. A warm welcome would set the tone for the exceptional experience that follows. Additionally, while our waiter was excellent, we did feel a bit rushed to place our dinner order, which took away from the otherwise relaxed ambiance we enjoying our drinks to.
All in all, Island Prime delivers on its reputation for fantastic food and views. With just a bit more attention at the host stand and a touch more breathing room when ordering, it could be a flawless experience. Oh, watch out for the phantom 5% extra fee they add to the bill. We do recommend the Island Prime experience!
With limited menu options, this shouldn’t necessarily be a concern, in my opinion. 4 or 5 apps, 4 or 5 entrees, 3 desserts. The quality of the food SHOULD be exceptional. Tonight, it simply wasn’t. Add in that they weren’t *super* busy makes it even more strange that things were what they were. To start positive, The lobster bisque and Korean beef tartare were quite good. However, the main entree of center cut filet mignon, potatoes au gratin, and asparagus were not up to the standard that should be expected of a $99 meal. As another reviewer stated, they were a fatty mess, needed salt/garlic/something, and I don’t remember what the sauce was (or what it added to the dish overall) but that also speaks to the problem with the entrees tonight: they were unremarkable and unmemorable. Also, perhaps this was the canary in the coal mine for the night, but My girlfriend ordered her steak medium and it came out medium well at best and probably well done. They fixed it – which we’re grateful for – and mistakes happen, but that was the general vibe of the food offerings for the night.
As for dessert, I LOVE Tiramisu. Absolutely my favorite dessert, without question. So, maybe the entrees would be a dud but we could finish strong with a great dessert. Well, no. It was still somewhat frozen on the inside. There was really no coffee/espresso flavor to speak of. There was no creaminess of mascarpone. Everything about the dessert was very bland and blended together and unremarkable.
Our waiter was attentive and helpful, service was good, and the views are spectacular. Just wish the food could have been the same.
There’s virtually no parking they have 90% of it sectioned off so you have to do valet, came out to $15
Got seated immediately, no wait. They put you tucked in the corner if you don’t ask for window seating.
Server walks you through the menu.
We ordered the tomahawk steak that’s 40 oz. But half of it is the weight of the bone. It had some pieces that were completely fatty and not worth eating so your 40 oz turns into 15 oz.
Our friends filet ordered at medium rare had to send back cause it was medium well. They got another one out rather quickly to him.
They gave us a Mudpie (either for the filet issue or cause we were celebrating their engagement). Half of us never ate it but the girls said it needed to be thawed more as it was solid.
We split the bill per couple since our friends didn’t drink. Each couple had a gift card. The waiter used my gift card on their tab along with their gift card. This could have been an accident so I won’t say the servers name but I think he was trying to leave our bill higher for a higher tip since they had a lesser bill and an issue with the filet. He didn’t come back right away and I didn’t notice it until after signing so my friend just Venmo me $50 but I also had already tipped on the extra $50. This was roughly an extra $10 I spent on tip.
There’s also a 5% service fee to keep their menu prices down that totaled $13.
So at the end I felt I unnecessarily paid $15 to park, $10 waiter mistake, $13 service fee = $38, almost my entire gift card.
Best part was the martini and bread. Spent $300 for 2 which isn’t crazy but I expect to feel like it was worth it after that and I didn’t.
The coconut shrimp was also out of this world lightly breaded, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. And the fish and chips (with hush puppies!) were equally fantastic. Every dish was clearly made with care, love, and skill.
If you’re looking for a place that knows how to do seafood right, this is it. I’ll be dreaming about that calamari until my next visit!
Shout out to Chef Deborah!!!
The view? Gorgeous. The parking situation? A bit of a plot twist. Lots of spots are reserved for valet, so unless you get lucky, just accept your fate and valet.
The popovers were such a treat: warm, buttery, and dangerously easy to keep reaching for.
One small hiccup: we never got a steak knife.. but the ribeye was so tender it didn’t matter, it practically surrendered on its own.
Service was top-notch: attentive without hovering, and the kind of staff that makes you feel like you’re the only table in the room.
