We visited this restaurant a little over a year ago during a road trip, and we still remember how delicious the fried fish basket was. It was one of those stops that stays with you — great food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
We’re really happy to hear that the place has recently been remodeled and that the food remains excellent with fair prices. This spot is truly a must-stop for travelers passing between Iowa and Illinois who want a tasty, well-prepared meal in a charming setting.
Highly recommended.
All the people working appeared to be busy so we stood there a while before we were acknowledged once we were told sit anywhere we sat quite a while while they continued to wrap silver, filling syrup that sort of things while we waited then eventually they brought menus and took our drink orders. The servers seemed nice but we kind of got the impression we were not regulars and could wait.
The food was not great except the burger was very good everything else was not good. The majority of it was your frozen restaurant supply food so nothing special. We asked for the soup we ordered before our entrées but we were told sorry that couldn’t happen because they needed to be heated up, sadly when they were served after all of our entrées 2 of the 3 soups were served cold and one was barely warm so clearly they are not temping food. The sign outside said Daily specials and a salad bar however once we were inside we discovered neither was a fact. The chicken strips were over cooked and hard, the curly fries were actually waffle fries the bun on the chicken sandwich was huge but the chicken was tiny and blah, again just basic frozen fair. The bacon cheese burger appeared to be hand pressed and was good. We were never offered drink refills not even on the coffee.
We will not be back. We will leave it to the locals. Another heads up they only accept cash or checks with no ATM onsite.
I WAS SO HAPPY!!!!
Friendly folks and simple accommodations.
I do wish they would ask if you want the bill on one ticket or separate..it always seems to be combined on one…not a deal breaker, but annoying.
We will be back!
Food is Great!
