To start off however, the service was sluggish. We had to ask the waiter to bring our water after 15 minutes. But they were quick to rectify this oversight. The first dish was the popcorn chicken which was outstanding! This was complemented with the buttermilk pie, which I personally did not enjoy but the rest of my party was quite fond of. Next was the croquettes (9 small ones) and bread with fancy pemmican which were also outstanding. The autumn greens were the final of an excellent round of appetizers.
For the main courses, the wagyu was absolutely incredible. The red snapper, cauliflower steak, and chicken were also great, but the chicken was overshadowed by the slaw it came with. The first bite of this slaw was like the scene from Ratatouille when the critic is transported to his mother’s cooking. It was unbelievably good.
Would definitely recommend this y’all raise Plexus, go Texas!
The tasting menu is where Isidore really shines. Each dish arrives like a small work of art, carefully paced and intentionally composed. Flavors are layered without being overwhelming, highlighting seasonal ingredients and refined technique. Every course feels purposeful — not just delicious, but memorable. It’s the kind of menu that tells a story as it unfolds, keeping you excited for what’s coming next.
What makes the experience even better is the attention from the staff. They explain each course with passion and precision, offer thoughtful pairings, and make you feel completely taken care of without interrupting the flow of the evening. It feels personal, relaxed, and elevated all at once.
Isidore isn’t just dinner — it’s an experience. If you’re looking for one of the best tasting menus in San Antonio, this is absolutely a place you need to visit. Perfect for special occasions, date nights, or anyone who truly appreciates exceptional food in a beautiful, intimate setting.
The food was delightful: intentional ingredients, artfully crafted and plated, with layers of flavor.
The service was exceptional – everyone was so warm and professional and made us feel like a priority.
My only critique would be that we felt pressure to order a more expensive bottle of wine than what we originally requested. Our server suggested one, which we agreed to, and then the sommelier came over and upsold us on a different bottle. While we do appreciate great wine and ultimately really enjoyed it, it felt a bit like a sales tactic.
Overall, we would do this again. Thank you so much to the team at Isidore! The Polaroid was also a nice touch.
The food was great, I got to experience some new and unique tastes but there were a couple of dishes that I just didn’t really like or care for such as the beets. The oyster ice cream with caviar was an interesting flavor combination that I ended up enjoying a lot. Music playlist they had playing was also really enjoyable and I really appreciated that especially for NYE!
Overall, I highly recommend you try this place out and enjoy what it has to offer!
The open-kitchen concept is fantastic—you can watch your meal being prepared right next to your table. The attention to detail was clear, and the presentation was absolutely on point. Flavors were bold and well-balanced, from the appetizer all the way through to dessert. The fresh bread service, straight out of the oven, was a highlight too.
The only thing we wished for was a bit more substance with the chicken entrée—it felt a little small compared to everything else. Still, we were there for restaurant week and thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience. Definitely planning to come back—well done!
Our server was Nick, absolutely fantastic. He felt like he truly cared not only about the food and the environment but for us as customers. He gave us solid recommendations and aided us perfectly when needing help with a decision.
Now onto the food. We started off with the Red snapper crudo (absolutely amazing, rich and buttery fish, very light and delicious toppings that start the night off perfect.
Next we get into the marinated shrimp. It was quite the interesting dish, the shrimp has been smashed down (almost as if making a tortilla from it) but it was extremely fresh and had none of the fishy flavor or smell you’d expect from raw shrimp. The fennel was an excellent choice as a topping, I wish I could give even the slightest bit of criticism but I’d be lying!
Let’s talk about the popcorn chicken. Since wise more like chicken nuggets, but that’s not even the point. The chicken itself was juicy and tender. The breading was light and not too heavy in seasoned perfectly. Here’s where I was taken for a whirlwind. There was actual popcorn on the chicken. Maybe it’s just because I’ve never been to an establishment like this, but that shocked me, however, the side sauce they brought was phenomenal and it made the chicken even better.
For our main course, we had the pork chop, which was absolutely phenomenal. It was cooked to perfection. It tasted amazing. It had this light smoky charred grilled flavor, but was rich and tender. The greens were delicious and the purée was just fantastic.
All and all I would 100% go here again and recommend it to anybody who is looking to explore San Antonio’s food scene.
