Reviews
Our hostess was pleasant and personable.
Our server was Alesia M. She was very polite and personable. She was totally on top of all of our needs and had great recommendations when we ordered. We had the 6oz filet which was cooked to perfection and the chicken Parmesan which was a very generous portion. The sides and breads were delicious. We ordered French onion soup for an appetizer and were blown away at how great it was. A good French onion soup is hard to find.
Thank you Ironwood for a wonderful dining experience deserving of way more than 5 stars.
“What a disaster, start to finish!
1) First, they lost our Christmas Eve reservation, kept helping others while ignoring us, and I finally had to get short with them to act and keep from being turned away.
2) While standing there, they turned away a couple without a reservation saying they were completely booked, but they never reached full capacity, and the place was already only half full when we left.
3) They denied us a booth saying they were for four people, but they seated two people at booths while we were eating.
4) My pre dinner Mai Tai I ordered only had a couple of Mai Tai ingredients in it, no Amaretto, no cherry, etc., I got no cocktail straws or Mai Tai garnish: My wife’s Grey Goose Vodka Martini with a twist had no twist. The server, who wondered around aimlessly not knowing what to do next, did not know what a twist was, and disappeared. I had to go to the bar myself to get it. The bartender took a lemon slice and de-pulped it, scraping it off with her thumbnail. The male server, Carlos, finally went and got a sheered piece of lemon rind, but my wife had to twist it herself.
5) The “bread” was dry and buried in the basket under stale matzah crackers.
6) The Prime rib and ah jus was good.
7) The “Yorkshire Pudding” was a cold, gritty popover.
8) The creamed spinach side was American style, whole leaf baby spinach in a milky sauce, not chopped spinach in a cream sauce.
9) We experienced periods of absolute server abandonment.
*Zero hospitality training, zero professionalism. Perhaps it was the “C” team covering Christmas Eve. Otherwise, this place suffers from a total lack of management competence, organization, and employee training, which ruined what could have been an otherwise pleasing atmosphere.
Ironwood Steakhouse needs to learn how to correctly overbook to keep their establishment at full capacity like airlines do, instead of turning people away when tables are available.
Aside from the prime rib itself (which saved the place from a one star review), we were terribly disappointed with the drinks, the food, and the service.”
***Update: Tonight, New Year’s night, because Ironwood is such a nice place, we decided to give it another try thinking we’d just have to work around the negatives.
When I called to make a reservation, there was some background commotion over the phone when I gave them my name.
When we got to the restaurant, the hostess was warm and accommodating, seating us in a booth. Our server was delightful, very attentive, upbeat, and engaging.
Then came the surprise of all surprises: The restaurant manager (“Yesenia”) came to our table, welcomed us, and thanked us for coming back. She said had read my review and thanked me for that as well, saying reviews like mine identified problems they could address to improve the service to their clients, whom they appreciate.
I ordered the surf and turf special, steak done rare-plus, the house salad with bleu cheese dressing, and blanched asparagus. The salad had everything from lettuce to yellow cherry tomato halves in it; it was fresh and perfectly dressed. The filet was cooked absolutely perfectly, delicious and tender. The lobster tail was as succulent and flavorful as any I have ever had.
My wife had the French Onion soup which was savory and covered half an inch thick with melted cheese, and a salad (and some of my steak and lobster, of course).
Every server there stopped by during the course of our meal, just to check in with us to make sure all was well.
All in all, we had a delicious meal and wonderful service, and we have the manager Yesenia to thank for that, and she did it in a classy way. She didn’t come over to us with a generic apology for our previous experience and discount our meal, she came over and sincerely welcomed us back, saying she had read and appreciated my review as being helpful in improving their food and service. And the meal and the cordial service we experienced tonight dramatically reflected just that.
The veal was a bit chewy, the braised rib still had the tough membrane on it, and there was just an abundance of gravy.
The crab cakes and the pork chop were very good.
Service was fine. They did fill up our water glasses when they were empty without us having to ask.
We had a 7pm reservation and we’re seated around 7:10pm
