Please take the five minute drive off of I-35 to go experience the best barbecue in Kansas, maybe the BEST in the central states! This little dive is open Thursdays and Saturdays. The owner has done a great job decorating inside this restaurant that’s quaint, welcoming, and extremely clean. He does it all! The brisket is the best I’ve ever eaten. I’ve been to many places in Austin, all over Texas and Oklahoma, and many Kansas City joints. Eric knows what’s he’s doing. The macaroni and cheese is craveable. The coleslaw is perfectly balanced with red and green cabbage with not too much sauce. Let me mention his four sauces: Texas-style, espresso, cherry cola, and a spicy vinegar sauce. All the sauces are spot-on. My favorite? The espresso! While the meats need no sauce (kudos to the pit master), the espresso is a perfect blend of flavor. 2nd place goes to the spicy vinegar…a lighter, thin sauce. 3rd place is, surprisingly, the cherry cola; a mild, not-too-sweet decadent delight! Lastly, the Texas style. No fault to last place. This one is chili-powder forward and would be palatable for most bbq connoisseurs. Thank you, Eric, for your hospitality and amazing lunch! We will be back!

You don’t see many places with a perfect 5 star rating unless they only have a handful of reviews but I can tell you that this one is not only true but well deserved! We had tickets to see a show at the casino in Mulvane so I googled what was near by to get a bite to eat and Iron Jacket showed up. I read some reviews and instantly knew I had to give it try. I reached out to Eric on social media and he answered all my questions. This guy knows his BBQ! I had the point end brisket, burnt ends, coleslaw and potato salad. Brisket was high end! Top 3 I have ever had and I have ate a lot of Brisket LOL! Burnt ends were by a LONG way the BEST I have ever had. Coleslaw was GOOD, Potato salad was GOOD! The wife had pulled pork and said it was great! But, the best thing about this place was Eric and his employee ( sorry, i don’t remember her name.) They were super friendly and welcoming. Took time to introduce themselves, told us about the BBQ, the sauces and Erics passion for BBQ. If you are ever in this area on a Saturday stop by and enjoy some great BBQ and fantastic people. You will not be sorry!

A picture is worth 1,000 words, but the brisket here will leave you speechless. Nowhere near Wichita will you find brisket that is cooked with so much love, care, and most importantly- FLAVOR. I also tried the burnt ends during my visit, and they did not disappoint! The most perfectly seasoned, insanely tender and juicy BBQ in the area. Maybe even the state. Eric has taken the time and effort to bring a taste of true Texas BBQ to Kansas, and we owe him for it! He makes all the sauces himself, and you can’t go wrong with any of them. Do yourself a favor and come try one of everything as soon as you have the chance. Currently open Saturdays and Thursdays, plan accordingly.

It’s been awesome to find such a great BBQ place so close to home! Best brisket I’ve found in Kansas! And as a former Texan…believe me, I’ve searched! Eric know his way around a smoker and from the brisket & pulled pork to the smoked Mac & cheese & hash, everything is so fresh and full of flavor! I can not recommend this place enough!!

Let me start off by saying this, there are 2 great bbq places in this area and this is the other one. I stopped in on Saturday before closing time and I am glad I did. I ordered everything they offered except for the chicken, I mean burnt ends brisket and pulled pork, priorities. Next time however chicken will be on my plate. I started with a 1/4lb of burnt ends, pillowy chunks of flavor filled awesome. I then moved on to a 1/4lb of pork, yes please and thank you, do yourself a favor and mix some with the beans. Finally i ended with a 1/2lb of moist brisket, when I say moist I mean fatty, you either order lean or fatty/moist. Lean is always good but fatty from the point is the way to go for max flavor.Everything was excellent but the brisket was the star, just salt and pepper goodness. As far as the sides go beans, smoked mac, potato salad and slaw, all top notch evey single one, though I did order a 2nd side of the slaw because good slaw is hard to find and this slaw is tip top.

Everything is homemade and smoked right there. His sauce is amazing but im not going to lie to you the flavor is there in the meat, no sauce needed but dont go without, treat yourself.Do yourself a favor and line up on a Saturday and let this place impress you, the pitmaster/owner Eric is very approachable and you can tell he loves what he’s doing, if you pass this place up, dont……….

What a hidden gem in a little town…we been to over 200 BBQ restaurants across the Midwest, mostly k.c. and all over Texas, Arkansas and Missouri, even the Carolinas..I seen the 5 star rating
with 100 reviews
,so naturally have to try it..I can honestly say it was probably the best brisket we ever had,it was that good. Every bit as good as Goldees and panther City in Texas, both top 10 in Texas monthly
…the chicken was also amazing. The sides also amazing all homemade..The sauces were again probably the best we’ve tried… especially the expresso on the brisket was perfect combo..the owner walked around giving samples to the people in line…super nice people…small town atmosphere…if I had to give any advice, would be to offer bread and pickles…I would give 10 stars if possible. Highly recommend…can’t wait to go back

My hubs and I have been to over 200 bbq joints. Some of which were in BBQ top ten, I can officially say this que is in my top ten… the Brisket is on point, I would of loved burnt ends w/o sauce but the ones they serve are very good. Nice bark on the brisket. Chicken is juicy with a nice bite through skin(it’s pulled chicken )) sweet and salty flavor on the chicken. Homemade bbq sauces that are amazing. The smoked Mac n cheese is amazing as well, they crumble cheeses on it. Very cheesy and creamy…. I’m impressed!

Went today and tried pulled pork, sliced brisket, burnt ends, chicken, smoked mac, and bbq beans. Had lovely conversations with the owner about different bbq places and styles, a very personal experience. The food was absolutely top notch…the brisket is perfection, velvety melt-in-your mouth smoky goodness with perfect bark. And we were blown away by the chicken, which was not only smoked nicely–moist and charred– but had a terrific spice rub that made it absolutely some of the best I’ve had. Looking forward to many future trips to Mulvane for Iron Jacket!!

WOW!!!
I can’t say enough about this place. I read an article on Facebook for the top 25 BBQ restaurants in Kansas and Iron Jacket BBQ was right around 11-12. I’d never heard of Iron Jacket so I decided to make the 20 mile drive to try it out. The minute I walked in I was greeted by Jamie, the front attendant. She was more than pleasant and inviting. I let her know that it was my first time visiting and she took a few minutes to tell me about the restaurant and explain my food options. Eric, the owner came out to introduce himself and shake my hand. At that point, I was sold!
The food options include brisket, pulled pork, burnt ends and chicken (maybe a few others, but no ribs). All of the sides are made fresh and they also make their own sauces: The sauces are non traditional and include an espresso and cherry cola flavored sauce. They’re more on the sweet & vinegary side so a little bit goes a long way. I ordered the brisket, burnt ends and potato salad. I thoroughly enjoyed everything but to say that the brisket is the best I’ve ever had is a huge understatement. I have nothing to compare it to. The bark was perfect and the smoke rings were something any pit master would be proud of.
BBQ is definitely subjective and I’m not an afficionado, but I have eaten my fair share of BBQ throughout Wichita, KC & St. Louis. Hands down, second only to Pappy’s in St. Louis, I can say that this was the best I’ve ever had. I highly encourage you to try it for yourself and enjoy the entire dining experience.
*This establishment is only open on Saturdays from 11-6(7) or until they run out of food. My guess is that they often, if not always, close early.
