Let’s be real, for proper Indian dining in Lawrence, this is practically the only option outside of Cosmos which feels more like a store/eatery hybrid. Because of that, you have to go into it knowing what you’re getting.
The place isn’t horrible, but if you’re truly craving authentic, top-tier Indian cuisine, this probably isn’t the best place to visit. The food is simply average. It’s serviceable, and it certainly satisfies the basic need for Indian flavors, but it often lacks the complexity and punch you’d find at a genuinely great kitchen.
For me, if I’m not feeling any other options and have a desperate, unavoidable craving for a curry or some naan, I’ll come here. But if you have the time and flexibility, you might want to save your budget for a meal where the flavors truly stand out.
The takeaway is simple: It’s not the best in the business, but it’s not a disaster either. If you have absolutely no other choice and need an Indian food fix, then you can go. Otherwise, you might be left wanting more.

i ordered to-go, the food i ordered was SOO YUMMY. I’m not in to spicy food, the mild option is the perfect. I love the vegetarian options. I got the mushroom curry. The portions were huge! I’m eating my leftovers as we speak. Definitely worth the price. I went inside to pick it up and I would eat inside next time. The employees were kind. I am definitely going to be eating here again.

We went with friends for dinner. Very authentic food and Nan is served here.

Order to plate time was enough that you know everything if made to order and fresh.

The owner was our waiter and super helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also amazing and comfortable.

Would definitely go back and look forward to it.

Easily the best Indian food in Lawrence — Globe doesn’t hold a candle to it (unless you are really longing for a buffet, which sadly, India Palace has discontinued). I have been eating here for decades and the quality of the food, as well as the robust and complex flavors, never gets old.

One note: If you are looking for high spice level you really have to specify that when you order, because the standard & medium spice levels are both fairly mild in my opinion.

Every single menu item I’ve ever ordered has been exceptionally tasty , and I have eaten at 30+ Indian restaurants around the world. 🙂 Standouts include their veggie samosas, rogan josh, malai kofta, aloo gobhi, mutter mushroom, and chicken tikka masala (of course).

And Ngawang is the kindest, most lovely server in the world. India Palace is the ultimate treat. (outdoor photo is takeout, not at the restaurant itself).

The best Indian food I’ve had in over a decade. Everything we got was amazing. The staff was very attentive and the food was served piping hot, fresh and pretty quickly. This is going to be a regular stop for my family going forward.

I have been there few years back because their food is great even though it’s pretty pricey. Yesterday my wife wanted to take me and my two boys there from my birthday. We drove from Wichita and got there at 1:27pm. I know they close their buffet at 2pm. There were people still eating and chatting. The male server told me they are closed for the lunch. I asked him that their website says 2pm and we drove all the way. He said he doesn’t make the decision. I told him to tell his manager to change the time on website. I was very mad and left the restaurant with my family. CHANGE THE TIME or Honor the actual published time. Do not waste people time. I will never go back.

Family friendly restaurant! I came here during a pregnancy craving and the lamb saag was amazing and just what I needed. My husband loved the chicken biryani. The prices were very fair and service was friendly. I loved their rice because it was infused with a touch of saffron. So yummy! The cleanliness of the bathroom wasn’t amazing, but we enjoyed the rest of our dining out experience, so we can be a little forgiving.

Not very spicy, even if you specifically ask for it.
If you want actual authentic taste, go in and have one of your South Asian friends order for you.

We love the food from India Palace. However, last night, the naan was noticeably not the naan we’ve always gotten from them. Not nearly as good :(. Did something change?

My first time at Indian Palace, but won’t be my last. The servers are very friendly and can help explain dishes.
Each dish can be very spicy, so ask for a mild version if the heat bothers you, otherwise, this food is a great authentic Indian experience.
