Staff member answering phone on 8/11/2018 – was rude, impatient, could not explain what happened to order – no direct answers – claims order was sent out for delivery 1 1/2 hours prior to my call and she was unable to reach the woman who was performing deliveries that night. It would have been acceptable if she said they were busy and set expectations up front. She decided that the truth was not an option. I called back multiple times, went to voicemail once, quick busy signal x 2, no one picked up x 3. Used a land line and she picked up – still no explanation of where order was. What a disappointment. Bartender showed up with order – said she was asked to delivery order 10 minutes prior – and that “the guy” performing deliveries was out dropping off food.
Total delivery time 7:28-9pm. Food was not hot, parts of order missing, left 2 messages with manager that were not returned. Called restaurant after order was delivered and they did not pick up. Never again.

I like my food spicy but my wife’s not so much. I specifically asked the waiter for medium spicy and he told me that that’s the way they normally cook their dishes. It was very spicy with my eyes wayering which was okay for me but my wife didn’t enjoy it at all.

I had been going here on and off for the lunch buffet, which is surprisingly good and reasonably-priced. They never change the items but what they prepare is interesting. I actually became friendly w/Scott, the owner. I am from NYC and he lives in Flushing, Queens (a long trip from Jersey shore). So we were talking about how the mall was upscaled when Kohl’s came onboard and I said that it should have fixed up long ago. Scott looked at me and said one word, “Jews.” Now this restaurant is adjacent to Deal, one of the largest and richest Jewish enclaves around. I doubt that any Orthodox Jews eat non-Kosher food, but still most of his clientele must be Jewish (non-Kosher Jews). If he hates the mall owners, a businessman w/a brain would keep his mouth shut about it. I have never been back there since. He deserves to be boycotted and bankrupt. Have a nice day.

Whether Imperial garden is now Takahara or Takahara is Imperial garden. I waited 46 minutes for a simple delivery of fried rice and chicken wings. I waited so long in fact I decided to pick it up only to be informed that Imperial garden had moved from me middle Brook. When I arrived at Takahara in orchard plaza (which still bears the signage of Takahara) I found my food wait for me. The chicken was warm which obviously told me it had long since been done and waiting. The rice is absolutely mush, over cooked that to call it fried rice would be an atrocity.
I suspect the owner of both properties is trying to consolidate his income, yet Takahara is a ghost town and no wonder if they can’t even act like a simple Chinese restaurant can. Order from Eastern Empire, or Sultan WoK, or even Ming Ying’s in Long Branch. All of them substantial farther then Imperial Garden/Takahara yet arrive faster then them. Which such speed you’d think they were next door!

I expected the lunch buffet …no longer. So I decided on Shrimp egg roll (2) they were fried very hard, the shrimp inside the egg roll were precooked very tough to chew. I was not pleased at all. Will not go back.
