Came for lunch and was delightfully surprised by the authentic japanese food served, we felt transported back to our trip in japan. A beautiful interior and exterior with high ceilings and lush greenery. A very unique space.

I had the agedashi tofu and ordered the eggplant side. Even the iced chai was expertly prepared and not too sweet, the ultimate asian compliment.

The only fault is the price is on the steeper side especially if you come on a weekend when there is the surcharge. I suppose its cheaper than a flight to japan.

Great food and nice venue. The Japanese breakfast teishoku is delicious.

The grilled fish is soft and flavourful.
The miso soup is refreshing and full of ingredients.

The staff is friendly too. Highly recommend this place for Japanese breakfast menu.

Beautiful exterior and interior.
The fish of the day was incredible — the barramundi melted in my mouth with sweet and savoury umami flavours. However I think the side dishes are a bit underwhelming. Lacking a bit style and flavours.
⏰ Unfortunately it’s not as “Zen” as it looks, as you need to book a table otherwise you feel being rushed by the waitress.

I’ve been intending to write this review for a long time.. always waiting for the perfect moment when I manage to take photos of the food and drinks as soon as they hit the table, hoping to capture that pristine presentation which is a delight, with its attention to detail, variety, freshness, and beauty of ingredients. But we never quite get there… we start enjoying everything the moment the tray is fully placed on the table.

So here’s a photo where I managed to restrain myself long enough to capture most of it.

For anyone who hasn’t truly experienced Japanese cuisine, there can be a misconception that simplicity means a lack of flavour. But the magic lies in the complexity drawn from perfect ingredients and meticulous preparation- careful composition designed to extract maximum flavour from every element. Ima Asa Yoru is the perfect place to experience this and convert minds.

Every detail is considered and elevated. You can both see and taste the experience in the kitchen. The precision, care, and professionalism, mirrored beautifully by the waiting staff, who are always friendly, welcoming, and polished.

The menu has enough variety to suit every palate (including desserts), and the food feels clean and light in the healthiest sense, made from fresh, quality ingredients- yet it’s incredibly generous. You will not leave hungry, and its exceptional value.

The drinks are just as high quality and thoughtful. As a matcha lover, it matters to me that the matcha is high grade, offered without sugar, and prepared in the traditional way. They get it right.

The décor is equally beautiful- simple, elegant, and modern, making it perfect for a relaxed brunch or a special dinner- with or sans kids. Book ahead on the weekends.

I truly can’t recommend it enough. Thank you Ima Asa Yoru, for making me happy every week!

Quaint little spot tucked away in Brunswick – we enjoyed the set meal that came with variety of pickled veg. Fish was also grilled to perfection – delicious.

We had make a reservation tho – does get busy over peak period.

Summary:
* Overpriced
* Unreasonably long wait (roughly 1.5 hours)
* Mid taste
* Small portions

When we first walked into the restaurant, we were told it was fully booked, despite the fact that many seats remained empty throughout our dinner.

Next was the long wait. It was difficult to get the attention of the service staff, as no one approached us to take our orders. To be fair, we were seated far away in the corner.

After placing our order, we didn’t time everything precisely, but our appetisers took approximately 30 minutes to arrive. The wait between the appetisers and the first main course, however, was exactly one hour, which is insane. We were also underwhelmed with the mains. The portions were so small that I wouldn’t consider them proper main courses, especially since this is not a fine dining restaurant.

In total, it was roughly $60 per person.

Came for dinner a couple of times and both experiences were overall great. Friendly service, cosy vibes with low lighting and a view of the open kitchen.

Our favorite orders were the Karaage that comes with a tangy, slightly spicy dip, and a weekly special item prawn head – smokey flavor. Croquettes are also lovely. Small menu but well executed.

Reasonably priced for a lovely evening out.

Simplified but deliciously prepared Japanese breakfast gets served here. Go early, sure it can get busy but more importantly things on the menu can run out! Went on the weekend for lunch and we had ordered the last serving of Fish wing. The smoky / charcoal taste was wonderful!

It’d be great if it was a little bit warmer in the restaurant! It was fun to try different dishes but most of them were underwhelming. The karage, skewers, and grilled squid were all so tender and soft, but seasonings/flavour were off. Overall, it is a bit overpriced. I came for dinner but the breakfast/lunch menu seems more enticing. I might try again if the opportunity arises. On the plus side, the interior is beautiful with nice low lighting and wonderful service from our waiter!
