Italian Restaurant – Il Tinello East
Menu – Il Tinello East
Reviews
Food:
• Tableside Caesar for two – absolute perfection, fresh and beautifully balanced.
• Cacio e pepe – classic, rich, and well-executed.
• Larry’s pasta – deeply flavorful and comforting, with a generous portion (leftovers-worthy).
The food? Unapologetically classic. Perfectly al dente pasta that could make you weep. Veal so tender it feels like a handshake from an old friend. Sauces that don’t need reinvention — just respect. Every plate is made with the quiet confidence of a kitchen that knows exactly who it is.
The staff moves with rhythm — polished, warm, never performative. They remember your name, your drink, your story. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of Benny G. — the owner operator, the heartbeat of the room. He’s everywhere at once: greeting regulars, pouring wine, telling stories that could fill a novel. You don’t just meet him — you feel him in every corner of the place.
Il Tinello isn’t trying to chase the next trend. It’s holding the line — on flavor, on hospitality, on what real Italian dining should feel like.
In a city that’s forgotten its manners, Il Tinello still knows how to look you in the eye and say, “welcome home!” Love this place.
Service was extremely fast, too fast. Within five minutes, three different staff members asked if we wanted an aperitivo and two asked about water. While attentiveness is usually appreciated, this felt overwhelming and disruptive. The same happened during the meal: plates were taken away before we had even finished chewing. We ordered starters, mains, and dessert and were out in under 60 minutes, which gives you an idea of how rushed the whole experience felt.
Even after asking for a moment before dessert, our request was ignored and another waiter came by almost immediately.
For drinks, we had a prosecco and a Negroni. The Negroni was poorly made: warm, with just a single piece of melting ice, which was very disappointing given the price. You get much better cocktails for less money.
As for the food:
• The meatballs in red sauce, recommended by the waiter, were fresh and decent.
• My girlfriend’s carbonara was underwhelming, no crema at all, and didn’t taste any guanciale.
• I had the pollo scarpariello, which lacked flavor, although the chicken itself was tender.
We ended with a cheesecake that was slightly dry but acceptable.
Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially considering the restaurant’s strong ratings and higher price point. The rushed service and inconsistent food quality really took away from what should have been an enjoyable evening.
If you’re looking for the best Italian restaurant in NYC, this is the place. Highly recommend!
Food was really good — fresh, flavorful, and came out looking great without trying too hard. Portions were solid too. Nothing worse than leaving hungry after paying NYC prices.
Service was smooth and friendly. No attitude, no weird wait times — just great hospitality.
