My boyfriend and I used to love this place and it was one of our go-to Italian spots in the area. We came in Monday night excited for our meal. Unfortunately, they’ve completely changed their bread. It used to be the best bread with sweet butter. Now it’s like a rosemary focaccia with sun-dried tomatoes, but the bread is dry and the tomatoes are sour. These flavors do not pair well with sweet butter. We split the burrata and calamari which was good. We also split the pollo siciliano, one of our favorites. However, we were disappointed by the chicken being grilled, instead of sautéed like the menu lists and how it normally is prepared when we order it. You could taste the grill, not great. Additionally, the menu says it’s served with broccolini but it came with asparagus instead. Really hoping this was just an off night and they bring back their OG bread recipe. The service itself is always good.

The food was NOT worth $35 dollars. While the pasta was good the sauce was bland and tasted like store bought jar sauce.
The server forgot our order of garlic bread. But luckily the house bread and butter paired good with the red sauce thay came with the calamari appetizer.

While visiting the quaint town of Old Town Alexandria, we stumbled upon IL Porto Italian Ristorante — it was 8:30 PM and our party of 8 tried its luck without a reservation. The team was kind enough to accommodate our group into two tables — this worked out perfectly since our 4 teenage kids needed a break from the parents.
Our server quickly greeted us and took our drink and appetizer order. She was attentive but lacked warmth.
The wine list was expansive but the pricing was high — double what I’m used to spending for a glass of cab or malbec. For reference, price points are $17 and up per glass. I opted against having wine at dinner. Perhaps the restaurant can consider a few lower price point options in the $9-$12 range.
Fresh bread and butter were brought to the table and devoured ferociously. This was a nice touch. We ordered the Burrata Alla Caprese salad and it was just okay. However, our main entrees were outstandingly delicious, flavorful and great portions — we enjoyed the lasagna, the spaghetti and meatballs and the shrimp pasta.
Overall, I recommend this cozy place for a nice dinner with family or a great date place.

We found the restaurant on TripAdvisor, and the pics of the restaurant looked charming so we took a chance having just arrived in town. Well, we hit the jackpot. We were given a choice of tables, with options looking out the front window (but close to the draft of the doorway) and a more cozy interior table without the view. We chose cozy.
Our server Henry was so kind and helpful. We asked for his favorites from the menu, and he steered us toward the flounder and the gnocchi specials. Both were delicious.
When we couldn’t decide which Pinot Grigio to order, he offered to let us sample each. Thanks to his generosity, we chose the right one for us.
Dessert was lovely, the tiramisu, served in a lovely portion, perfect for sharing.
Would definitely dine at Il Porto again, located in the lovely Old Town.

The restaurant was incredible. Every pasta dish was made to perfection, and the tomato sauce was excellent. It wasn’t too sweet or too acidic. It had a really balanced, flavorful taste. The free bread basket with honey butter was honestly some of the best bread I’ve ever had.
The burrata caprese appetizer was fresh and full of flavor. The spaghetti with meatballs was really good, with generous portions and great texture. The spaghetti with parmesan was rich and satisfying. Everything we tried was well-prepared and tasted great.
Only hiccup was that we asked for more bread several times, and it took about 15 minutes before it finally came. We needed the bread so we could eat the Burrata Caprese…

We had such a great time at Il Porto! Even though it was super busy, the service was excellent and the food was absolutely amazing, hands down the best Italian food we had on our trip. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and everything came out fresh and surprisingly fast.

Such a wonderful first time dining at Il Porto! They offer gluten free pasta, so I was able to choose any pasta dish off the menu. The gluten free chocolate cake was my favorite! Delicious food, great ambience (top floor was lovely). Eya was a wonderful server! Very attentive to our needs, lots of great recommendations, and so friendly.
