I had a very disappointing experience at this Italian restaurant. Upon entering, the host staff—who seemed like distracted teenagers—were chatting among themselves rather than welcoming guests or assisting with seating, which is far from the standard I would expect from a fine dining establishment.
We waited almost ten minutes before anyone brought us a menu. Unlike other Italian restaurants, no bread was served upon being seated. When it eventually arrived after we placed our order, it was dry and completely flavorless.
As for the food, it was honestly one of the most disappointing Italian meals I have had across all the states I have visited. The sauce was watery and lacked any authentic Italian flavors. To make matters worse, the prices were extremely high considering the poor quality of both the food and the service.
Overall, this restaurant fell short on every level—service, food, and value.

I went on a Wednesday night around 6:30pm in the winter, so your experience may vary during busier times. We were seated immediately and had a very attentive waiter who clearly knew the menu inside and out. She was a wealth of knowledge and answered all of our questions with confidence. The atmosphere was nice and quiet, with subtle live music in the background. The food was good and arrived at a respectable time. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

Al Garganio’s is easily one of the best Italian restaurants in Virginia Beach. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is warm and fun, and the service never disappoints.
They also have the best focaccia bread seriously, it’s unforgettable and their drinks are excellent. Whether you’re going for a nice dinner, a celebration, or just craving amazing Italian food, it’s always a great time at Al Garganio’s.

Unfortunately the food was just not good. We got the carpacio for an appetizer and it was flavorless. We got the veal chop Parmesan for our main at $60. It was covered in pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. Just not good at all. The cut was super thin as well. It was advertised as this great cut of meat which it was not. Everything also needed salt; the carpacio , the veal and the sauce. Everything. The atmosphere was cramped and loud. Service was fine. If I went back I’d probably just order spaghetti and meatballs or lasagna. That could be good and is probably what you should stick with here.

It was a girls trip to Virginia Beach and we need some Italian food. Let me just say…this restaurant did not disappoint. First the bread oil dip was UNBELIEVABLE. So many flavors in this little dish.
Next up was the clams casino and carpaccio… the clams were so crispy and fresh tasting. The carpaccio was sliced sooo thin and the arugula was dressed perfect.
One of the girls ordered the linguine with clams and it had so many clams and the sauce was so flavorful. The chicken francese was cooked perfect. It doesn’t come with pasta but you can add it for $5. Do it.
We were too full for dessert but the options were plentiful and everything is made in house.
Can’t wait to go back.

Great discovery in the middle of Virginia Beach. The food came on time, deliciously prepared and my server who I do not recall her name unfortunately was a gem. She made the experience even better.
Live music was played and the piano man was so talented that his show was another great addition to the experience.

This is the best restaurant for sure with amazing customer service, food and the ambiance.
Our server Steve is a true gentleman who is customer obsessed and took really good care of us.
The food is so fresh that you can instantly feel the fresh ingredients. Tiramisu they served was so delicious and fresh, wow .

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS
We ordered two margaritas and two pizzas. The drinks and the pizzas were good.
They tasted fresh and they were very appetizing.
The waitress on the other hand (Lydia Ruth Server Check 11) was as nasty as they come.
I have no idea what she has going on but her customer service is wayyyyyyyyy off. She was short, rude and barely had anything to say to us until it was time to hand over our bill.
We too are business owners and we strive to provide great customer service. It’s unbelievable that she would behave the way that she did and expect a tip or gratuity. I tipped her 15% but she deserved 0%. I customarily tip 20-25%.
I’m so frustrated with people who work in certain industries and behave like this server does.
The restaurant is nicely designed and can accommodate large parties. The prices are very reasonable.
The drinks are strong! The bartender deserves the tip.
Management please consult with your service staff. This server is giving your establishment a bad rap!
Hopefully, this $7 gratuity will make her think along with the talk that management will have with her.

I intentionally tipped the pleasant young lady $10! She’s who should be serving the tables.

We had quite an entertaining dining experience here. When we arrived there was live music being performed by a passionate pianist/violinist with unique musical selections. Though we made prior reservations, and with the restaurant fairly open, we were still sat by the bathrooms, away from the live music and most other patrons. We were served by a very kind and talkative server, who was knowledgeable but a little intense. The food was flavorful and rich and the wine paired nicely. We had plenty of food leftover to take home as well. At times we did feel a bit out of place by the looks of the more experienced groups. This of course is no fault of the establishment but something to consider for diverse patrons. Overall a good date spot.
