Waitress was very nice and friendly.
Calamari fritti was really good, a light batter, and soft meet.

Very personable service (after you get past the matradie ‘not David’) creative specials and a good wine selection. Recommended you make a reservation. Food is delicious – the short ribs are amazingly tender with a savory / sweet pomegranate glaze and an incredibly tasty creamy polenta. Asparagus is perfectly seasoned, and the chicken parm is excellent. And honestly they make hands down the best clam chowder I’ve had. Recommend for the flavor and ambiance, and the staff is really nice, too!

I recently had dinner here twice, and both visits were great. All dishes were good, but their seafood dishes (the cioppino and the vongole pasta) have an impressive umami that I haven’t found at other Italian restaurants and are packed with fresh seafood. I’d say their cioppino is better than that of some famous cioppino spots in SF. The place wasn’t very spacious or quiet, but the service was excellent.
One small complaint I have is about the starter bread. It wasn’t very good for a nice Italian restaurant like this.

Absolutely amazing food ambiance and service. 5 stars. The staff are amazing the food recommendations incredible. We enjoyed a gorgeous watermelon and tomato salad as a starter. Then we had our mains . My husband had an Incredible Sea bass and I was wavering between the scampi and a seafood pasta. I asked the waiter to choose for me and he didn’t disappoint. Full of different kinds of seafood all cooked perfectly. The tables around us all had food that looked and smelled incredible as it came out. Filled and happy we would definitely come back to this amazing place.

Il Davide is a great place for all occasions and a family restaurant for all ages. It is a bit formal but you can sit outdoors and still enjoy a grey meal with kids.
I love their truffle ravioli the chefs there know how to make a great place. I also had their fried calamari, and scallops pasta . Every plate was plentiful and the service is just outstanding all around. The wine list is very good and affordable. Their deserts are a great way to end a good meal.

Il Davide is a perfect Italian gem in the middle of downtown San Rafael. I would absolutely recommend making a reservation, or make sure you get there before 5:45 to ensure you have a table.
The drinks are split – cocktails were great. Weirdly, the wine fell flat and was borderline disappointing.
The food – you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Don’t fill up too much on the bread they bring, while it’ll be tempting. Highly recommend getting the calamari fritti to start. For entrees, go for the house made pasta; it’s what they’re known for. Capellini del diavolo is delightful and not too spicy. The fettuccine viareggio is decadent and full of flavor. And the chicken parm is like no other. All of our plates would have been licked clean if that was appropriate in public. Of course end with some gelato or sorbet. It’s the perfect way to wrap up the meal.

I was really disappointed in this place. I heard great things so decided to take my family there for a dinner when my in laws were in town. I had the beet salad and I was not blow away. My girlfriend had a salmon and said it was just okay.
The biggest issue was the waiting staff. I’m not sure if it was just because it was a busy night or what but we got ignored by our waiter the entire night. I had to chase her down to get a refill of water.
