Review for Ikkyu Japanese Restaurant (Takeout Order)

I usually love coming to Ikkyu to dine in, but this time I only had time to grab some takeout. I ordered three ramens — Shoyu, Miso, and Tonkotsu — plus two different onigiri. The food itself is always excellent here; Ikkyu has never disappointed me on flavor, and they package their ramen really well with the noodles separated to keep everything from getting soggy.

The only hiccup today was a mix-up at checkout. After waiting about 15 minutes, I realized they rang me up for a miso soup instead of the miso ramen. They were kind and quick to fix the charge, but by the time everything got sorted, the other two ramens had already cooled down. Not the end of the world, just something to note if you’re grabbing food to go during a busy moment.

Communication can be a little tricky here because they still have the big COVID-era plastic guards up. It makes it harder for both sides to hear clearly, and I’m pretty sure that contributed to the order mix-up. Hopefully they update that setup soon, because the staff really is friendly and helpful.

Overall, I still highly recommend Ikkyu. It’s a small spot with a little patio, and while I haven’t tried their sushi, their ramen is always the star. I remember when they only served ramen a couple days a week — clearly everyone loved it, because now it’s available daily. Great flavors, great packaging, and despite the small hiccup, I’ll definitely be back.

Such a cozy place with delicious ramen! I love miso ramen and this broth was so flavorful. My husband loved his tonkatsu ramen-it had more of a kick than the ramen place near us and he enjoyed it!

Small place indoor and outdoor seating. Had the miso ramen. Really enjoyed it. Basic and simple and Really good. The had hot sauce and chili powder on the table if you wanted to spice it up

I don’t live in Tucson but I am here couple times a month and eat all my meals out. I would not call Tucson flavor town. Most my meals are looking for something else. This place is great. Look at menu first then go up to order and a few minutes later great unpretentious food. Loved it

Worst sushi we’ve ever had. Grocery store sushi is better. The salmon in the rolls was dry, super salty, had poor flavor. The mouthful had an almost tough texture. Normally I’m not too picky, but couldn’t even finish this…

The “spicy” salmon roll was the same as the salmon roll but with a small dipping sauce.

We got the Bento box salmon as well and the salmon was salted way too much… it was fairly dry also. The rice was good at least.

The ramen might be good? Seems like other reviews enjoyed that, but avoid the sushi!!

Staff is nice. Service is fast. Prices are cheap, but you get what you pay for. Hole in the wall atmosphere. Teppan Chicken was SO dry, no flavor. My son was scared he would become ill from the sushi. Yakisoba Veg too sweet according to my daughter.

Service was quick and easy. The spicy tuna Inari was delicious. We both ate the beef with zucchini and mushrThe beef tasted a little sweet and spicy. I would recommend this place for a quick-bite to eat. We will be coming back for sure.

I love this place. They don’t serve nigiri, but their donburi, rolls, bento boxes and ramen dishes are excellent. They will do a motorcycle-specific packing job if they know you’re on 2 wheels and are very gracious about it.

Delicious meal. Spicy Tuna Don Volcano bowl was very filling, served with a generous portion of tuna. Sauce was sweet and the toppings were crunchy. Tuna Volcano bowl was served with a side of miso soup. I would eat here again.

Stop in here before shopping in Lee Lee grocery across the parking lot. Nice staff, well-organized kitchen. Really tasty curry chicken over rice. Salmon fillet was fresh tasting, but thin. Rice is top notch. Recommend take-out, place is tight, noisy, and when door opens you will freeze, or roast depending on season.
Lost a star because I admit I’m a clean freak when it comes to restaurants, and the tables were hastily wiped down between diners, food ended up on chairs. Ick. Ick. Icky.
