Our server was fantastic, offering great recommendations that we really appreciated. I ordered the Chicken Mama Maria special, which was delicious and a nice change from my usual chicken parm. My boyfriend loved the pizza, it was a thin-crust pizza with sausage and jalapeños, great sauce and crunchy cracker thin crust .
We also tried the arancini (phenomenal!), enjoyed the fresh roasted garlic with bread, and I loved the sangria since it wasn’t overly sweet. We finished with tiramisu, which was amazing.
Overall, everything from the food to the service was excellent. We’ll definitely be back to try more food!
As we entered it was a small place with a bar area. Don’t let that give you run away feeling. Stay, sit become part of a family you didn’t know you had. That’s how I felt being there. The waiter was fantastic never let our glasses go empty or our bread plate left with crumbs.
We ordered the calamari that was like non-other I have tried. It wasn’t a heavy breading, very lightly breaded. The marinara was tasty with every bite you took you wanted more. We had the soup of the day Chicken Pot Pie. Okay I’m not a fan of someone taking a comfort food like Chicken Pot Pie. I was surprised by the flavor profile of a simple dish they served to our table. I didn’t want to finish the soup. I wanted to save some for the next day asked for a to go container the waiter brought out the container have full of the soup, said this way you have a cup when you get home. My wife ordered a special of the day plate. That consist of homemade pasta, spinach, capers and grilled shrimp a lemon sauce served over the dish. I love Chicken Vesuvio. In my opinion it was one of the best Chicken Vesuvio I’ve had ever! I didn’t finish that either I wanted leftovers with my soup.
A waitress came in for her shift very nice lady. A customer came in for dinner she seemed very much at home. A large party had left, and a couple came in so it was a very quaint setting with three tables. We had finished up our meal. I stood up to stretch my legs. Walked over to the couples table as I noticed he was having the lasagna and they had finished their meal as well. I learned it was there second time there and the young man said it was for the lasagna. I was impressed to hear that as that was an item of interest, but as I said Chicken Vesuvio is my favorite.
The customer (Jennifer) that walked in asked how we enjoyed our meal. It was an opportunity to chat. Yes she is a regular as I found out. I guess the prim chips are her go to and a bottle of red! We were invited to sit and have a glass of wine with her. We declined as I’m a heart transplant patient no alcohol. As I think about it more we could have had another drink shared our stories.
Oh don’t forget dessert. I turned around they had placed on our table Stemmed Cherries dipped in dark chocolate. I have had chocolate covered strawberries, but don’t forget to try them and the cannoli my wife ordered just one of them, she shared with me.
Please take the time go have a meal at Ignotz Restaurant where you walk in and feel your grandmother or mim is in the kitchen making your meal.
The staff was great. Friendly, professional, on key with orders and suggestions.
The food was very tasty and full of life in flavors and presentation.
The overall atmosphere was great. A small intimate place with a big family openness and kindness.
Parking is a beast but, worth the walk of you have to walk from a parking space.
I am looking forward to eating other dishes here.
Also, deserts are fabulous as well.
I’ve lived in Chicago for over 25 years, and I can’t believe I had never heard of this restaurant until recently.
We met up with another couple, and to our surprise, the main dining area was completely full. They also have a beautiful outdoor patio, but since it was raining, that wasn’t an option. We didn’t realize reservations were needed, but the staff kindly asked us to wait a bit and quickly found us a table in the adjacent building.
Three of us ordered pasta, and one had the baked chicken. Every dish looked delicious and came with either a small salad or the soup of the day. I had the basil pasta, and it was absolutely wonderful. They also serve pizzas, which I wish I had tried!
What stood out the most was the warm hospitality. The owner personally came out to greet every guest—shaking hands and making sure everyone felt welcome. The waitstaff was attentive and friendly throughout the evening.
It was clear that many of the patrons were regulars, and I can definitely see why. This place is a true hidden gem in Chicago’s Little Italy.
