Ordered Benne dosa, Mini tiffin with Kesari and Rose milk
***Couldn’t really enjoy the meal from Idly express which I’ve been really looking forward to because of one staff member’s mistake!***
Called the restaurant prior to ordering and asked if they could NOT add any spice paste to Benne dosa for my baby and a staff agreed(Asked for his name so I can speak to him again after ordering). Made the order and called the restaurant again, spoke to the same person and told my name, items in my order and asked him again to make sure that they DON’T add any Spice paste to Benne dosa and he confirmed. To my disappointment, after reaching home, I found that there was a heck lot of Spicy paste inside the Benne dosa.
When I called the restaurant again and asked why he couldn’t keep up his word, he simply said “try giving it to your baby and see if they like it”. I mean, the audacity! It’s like asking a parent with a nut allergic kid to feed peanut butter and see if they “like” it! Sir, if you couldn’t keep up your word, at the least, please have the decency to admit your mistake in the first place. He did apologize to me eventually after I kept repeating our earlier conversation and “assured” that he’ll make the NEXT order properly. As if the first/current order is just a demo of sorts and they’re simply giving it away! He also said that I asked for “LESS” spice. Please! “WITHOUT” and “LESS” have completely different meanings and please don’t try to trick the customer into thinking that they said otherwise.
Pros – Overall scrumptious authentic South Indian food. Sambar was an absolute delight – tasted like South Indian ‘wedding’ sambar. Chutneys were also equally good and tasted fresh and not straight out of the refrigerator. Idly was decent and soft. Benne dosa was huge and well made. Pongal also tasted homemade and authentic.
Cons – Kesari, although lathered with ghee didn’t taste sweet at all, almost like Rava upma with just a little bit of sugar sprinkled. Rose milk had some strong taste/flavor which I couldn’t put my finger on – maybe it had too much of the essence added!
I also feel the price is just a bit much for a TAKE-OUT ONLY place.
Overall, it was a hearty, satisfying meal, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend!
The consistent love pouring in from Tamil (good food lovers) crowd shows how much the authenticity is understood and appreciated.
Personally I love the minimalistic heartful options on menu and transparent business model the owner operates on even before the Atlanta expansion. Can’t wait for the dine in locations to open soon!!
The meal was absolutely delicious and authentically prepared. The sambar, thogayal, and beans paruppusili were exceptional—full of flavor and traditional cooking. We enjoyed it so much. Also, we even picked up an extra vathakuzhambu, which was very tasty and authentically made.
Thank you once again for the wonderful food!
The drumstick sambar, thogayal, and Mysore rasam were outstanding; deeply flavorful and incredibly comforting. The mix veg poriyal had a great variety of vegetables, and the mung dal was a lovely protein boost (I honestly wish I could order an extra helping of that alone!).
I’ve also had their Pongal special Banana Leaf Feast, and the flavors were just as authentic, showing impressive consistency across meals. Ordering ahead and picking up from the drop-off spot was very easy, with clear and timely communication. Portions were generous—we had more than enough food for three adults.
Truly soulful, homemade food. Hoping to see a Sandy Springs–Dunwoody location soon!
