Cool diner. Good vibes and Good food…
First time eating here at the recommended of a friend. I had the bacon cheeseburger with fries. While this was a simple order, it was good. I have to go back and try their breakfast offerings.
If you have not been here before, note the seating is very limited, so there may be a wait. I think with the food, it may worth it.
The food is good, and in my opinion, the price is reasonable. The staff was courteous courteous and the diner had a good vibe.
I will be going back.

Being from the diner capital of the world, pains me to say it but this is the best diner that I have ever been to. The hash browns are always crispy yet soft and delicious. The eggs are fantastic and those pancakes are just killer. Like the gravy in the fried steak is as southern as they come and yeah IT blows any other diner out of the water. It’s that damn good everytime!

I don’t admit FOOD is really good, unless it is…and the food here is AMAZING! There were a LOT of people however, very cramped, barely any seats, it was hot on the left side of the restaurant, and you can’t eat except at the counter. So in order to get served, you have to order & wait on stools until there’s a spot for you. When your spot opens up that’s when they start cooking your food. LARGE portions, prices were great, small cups for soda (not sure refills are free), yet they needed more than one person trying to cook, & more than two ladies serving as they seemed super stressed & one hade a ‘tude! Was served on the right side of the restaurant and it was way cooler over there thank goodness. I didn’t like that they put my silverware directly on the counter (not sanitary), would be better if they put them on a napkin or wrapped them in one. There are NO bathrooms or ways to wash your hands so use a bathroom before & bring sanitizer. The decor is great, yet for the amount of people it would be even better if they open a small dining area with booths, especially for people who are handicapped! The food was worth everything else though, will recommend yet maybe try earlier in the morning or during the week as it was super busy on a Saturday around 12:30pm.

Stopped in for breakfast to go. Ordered the ideal omelet w/hash browns, northeastern omelet w/hash browns & steak & eggs w/hash browns.
The place is small. Staff very friendly, efficient & clean. The food is excellent tasting & cooked as you oder it. No mistakes. The only issue I have is, that Minneapolis requires restaurants to use non plastic/styrofoam to go containers for take out food. The food (juices/oils/setam) soaks into the bottom of the container. It leaks through causing the food to fall through. Suggestion, put foil/parchment paper on bottom before putting food in the container.

I’m not in NE Minneapolis often so was surprised to find this hole in the wall spot that’s been open for business since 1949. A breakfast and lunch only diner.
I loved the back in the day decor. Very clean place with bar stool seating in a shotgun style arrangement. The entire open kitchen is right there in front of you. Staff was super friendly. I ordered steak and eggs for breakfast and it was very good. The prices on the menu is very desirable not expensive as in other places I’ve been. This is definitely a place you want to go out of your way to visit. I’ll be back for sure.

I have only visited for breakfast once so far, but WOW, incredible breakfast! The food was absolutely delicious, my wife and I really loved our meal.
Your number one trade off with this place, especially on a weekend morning, it’s very small and there will definitely be a wait. Now, if you’re cool to wait a bit, i think it’s very worth it. This is what a diner should be, this is exactly what I hope for. I thought the pricing was very reasonable and absolutely worth it.
The only thing that wasn’t ideal for me during the visit, and the reason why I marked 4 stars instead of 5 for atmosphere, is before we were sitting at the counter, while we were standing and waiting, the heat vent was blowing straight onto us and was a little uncomfortable. I imagine this is less of a concern in the summertime.
Either way, delicious food, very worth heading over there to check it out.

We came to Ideal diner with low expectations because of its size. Boy were we surprised the atmosphere was akin to going home to a family sit down, I am ashamed to say the food was better, without all the family drama lol:) this diner in my opinion is so much more than meets the eye. Thank you Ideal diner for making dor a memorable experience every time!
