I brought my brother here while he was attending a convention in Santa Clara. He has never been to Santa Cruz and I will use any excuse to go to Santa Cruz. The day was freezing but salsa class/gathering was in full swing next to the Ideal Bar & Grill which made the atmosphere much more welcoming. I cannot resist anything that says award winning and the award winning clam chowder really tasted award winning. My meal was great, my bother was satisfied. The food was delicious, our server was fantastic. Unfortunately there was no room for dessert. You are next to the beach. I highly recommend.

Everything was good (service, food, atmosphere) but the price vs food you get seemed a bit too much. I guess with the amount of traffic they get they can charge premium for basic meals. I think it was $15 extra for 5 shrimps on a salad. Sandwich was so high i barely fit it in my mouth and bread seemed on the dryer side, thats a $19 meal sandwich with coleslaw that was actually pretty good. Next time maybe I should get 2 foot-longs at Subway and eat them at the beach, i dont know, left fed and happy but with less money in the pocket.

Atmosphere was great. Ate outdoors and enjoyed people-watching. Food was good but pricey; the calamari was great; it came with tartar sauce and (ketchup?! cocktail sauce would’ve been better). Service was terrific. I’ll go again next time I visit, the location was a lot of fun.

Great location right off of the boardwalk and Santa Cruz pier. The bartender and staff were nice and polite. The prices in my opinion however are very high for the quality of the food/drink provided. You can definitely get better food for better prices elsewhere, but if you’re visiting and staying close to the boardwalk it is convenient.

I was craving fish and chips & some clam chowder so we decided to stop by and everything was perfect. We were seated right away and our server was super nice. Tried a local IPA and enjoyed our lunch. The food was delicious and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town.

This spot is all about location! Right next to the wharf, walking distance from the beach, the rides, and the shops! The food was good and the service was on point. Would recommend for a nice dinner if your visiting from out of town

Thank you for serving great New England clam chowder WITHOUT bacon! What a relief to find a chef that can cook without bacon. The price of $10 chunky chowder was a great price. You will need to add black and some salt to the chowder to make it “pop”. My nephew ordered the baby back ribs and loved them. I was teasing him about coming to a restaurant near the water to order baby back ribs but he loves the ribs and the ambiance of viewing the water. The French fries were good and we order them as a fast appetizer since there was no bread provided complementary and we were hungry…lol . Oh yeah .. free refills with the tea!! The service was great from the hostess to the server.
