It might seem a bit expensive but this is not your regular burger, this is a whole new world of drama and excitement: this is barbecue, a club sandwich and a high-end luxury burger, all rolled into one beautiful and perfectly balanced meal.
With triple the fundamentals, plus a generous salad, the bread is hardly visible amid the cacophony of color but closer inspection reveals a light bun charred with a logo, lightly toasted in fragrant oils. A masterclass in fresh baking, its springy bite provides a wholesome boundary layer for the complex flavors crammed inside it. The recipe has presumably been a closely guarded secret for generations, none of that standard, stodgy, preservative-encrusted bun-fare here thank you. The local area’s famously friendly manners are further demonstrated by the perfect presentation.
The mother lode is a burger delightful enough to carry a meal alone. The contrast with the accompanying bacon’s dramatic grilled pork fat flavor, and the brisket’s sweet earthiness provides engrossing drama as the burger unfolds. Both of these burger-meat backing-singers wail their smoke, salt and sugar in perfect harmony, vying for attention as the iceberg lettuce, slices of tomato and piquant pickle soak up the oil and provide the nutritious undertones. Every mouthful is an adventure, a bit more brisket and pickle here, a shot of BLT there.
It’s the ultimate all rounder. Sure, a cheaper burger can satisfy too, while still hitting all those key flavor points we know and love, but this is a burger from another plane of reality.
Chicken tenders $6:
They might well be from the same McDonald’s supplier, similar fluffy all-white breast meat and lightly breaded in a deliciously moreish yellowish orange crust, refashioned into much bigger and more cohesive pieces, but the chicken meat melts into their shell and the fresh flavors extend so much longer than those generic alternatives. The barbecue dipping sauce is sweet but not sickly. Subtle and delicious, a normally all too brief experience is extended into satisfying quarter-chunks of a meal.
The overall experience represents the generous hospitality of a welcoming state. If food can build bridges then this place is a diplomatic coup.
Staff very friendly, a bit off the main road but worth the extra 5 minutes. Best burger and fries in town. Real Idaho Beef and Potatoes! Home grown!
