We sat at the bar during our visit, which made the experience even more enjoyable. It was great to watch the chef prepare the sushi right in front of us. Seeing the process and the attention to detail added a special touch to the meal.
We mostly ordered nigiri, and everything was very fresh and made with high-quality ingredients. Each piece was well-balanced and nicely prepared, allowing the natural flavors of the fish to stand out.
The service was also great—attentive, friendly, and efficient throughout the meal. Overall, it was a very pleasant dining experience with fresh food, great service, and a nice atmosphere. I would definitely come back again.

A small Japanese restaurant with dimly lit lights and simple interior.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday and it wasn’t crowded. They have Happy Hour everyday till 7pm, and they have daily lunch menu too.

Ordered the chicken karage lunch set, tonkatsu lunch set, oyster half shell (HH), geso karage (HH), spicy tuna crispy rice (HH), all the nigiri from the HH menu, age-dashi tofu, black cod robata, negi hamachi robata, and omakase sashimi.

The chicken karage and tonkatsu lunch sets were not great – both meats were dry. The oyster half shell had a slight spiciness to it, but nothing special. The spicy tuna crispy rice was very hard. Seemed like it was double fried overnight food, and the tuna wasn’t spicy at all. The only saving grace in the fried food area was the geso karage, which was fried perfectly. Both robata dishes were disappointing, as both fish dishes were dry and not much flavor. The raw fish dishes were good, with the sushi rice slightly seasoned. However, the uni nigiri lacked the creamy or buttery texture.

Overall, I would come back for the raw fish dishes instead of the fried food.

Parking could be challenging during peak hours, as the strip mall is filled with restaurants.

We had a really great experience at Ichijiku. The fish was fresh, and everything we ordered was well prepared and flavorful, including the sashimi omakase platter, takoyaki, bowls were all very satisfying. The only dish that missed the mark for us was the eggplant skewers as it had a bit too much sauce, which overpowered the natural flavor. Service was friendly and welcoming. There was a slight wait, but it was their first Friday lunch service, so that was understandable. One small suggestion would be to add a changing table in the restroom, which would be helpful for families. Overall, we would definitely come back.

Found this hidden gem tucked away in Chinatown and really enjoyed the experience. Had a reservation for the all-you-can-eat Omakase experience and it was absolutely delightful. The place is small, but really clean and aesthetic. And the sushi is delicious. They also do a happy hour every day until 7 PM which was wonderful. The only thing I will note is the sushi selection for the Omakase is quite limited so I didn’t get to try as many different types of sushi as I would’ve liked however it was overall a wonderful experience.

Great quality and a fantastic happy hour. We loved the prices and the food is carefully crafted. Feels authentic, and the sushi chefs are very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, they’ve only had one server both times we’ve been there so it slows down the service. Important to know if you’re going at a busy time. Highly recommend the Omakase (great bang for buck), lobster, and ika tempura.

We made reservations for Saturday night and was surprise it wasn’t completely pack. They got us in right away to our table. The server was very helpful in helping go through the menu since it was our first time here. The sashimi was fresh!!! I totally recommend it! Love their truffle French fries & their dipping sauce – fries came in a paper bag I totally forgot to snap the picture. The edamame was just salty. Was expecting it to be more flavorful. Crispy salmon salad was a little too dry and the dressing didn’t wow me with the ponzu sauce. The Hokkaido was good but a little dry & the pork was a little overpowering the scallop, wish I tasted more scallops. On the appetizer sampler I was really amaze by the fish belly it wasn’t fishy at all. Very creamy almost like liver texture. The raw octopus was a little too slimy for me. Took a shot of hot sake to flush it down. I would definitely go back for the sashimi & truffle French fries. Very nice environment it wasn’t too loud. You’re able to carry a conversation and don’t have to talk loud. We kinda stay past closing time bc we were trying to finish our food but they were very nice and never rushed us out.

Came here with a group of 3 of my friends on a Friday night to try out the HRW dinner special for $39 per person. Hard to get in without a res as there’s not too much capacity. The overall ambiance is cozy and we were seated in the back section in a booth. There were a lot of native Japanese speakers dining so I figured the menu is fairly authentic.

1st course: Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice
-delicate and balanced flavors but smol

2nd course: Sesame Snapper Crudo
-umami and refined but smol portions

3rd course: Spicy tuna hand roll
-needs more cucumber and avocado

4th course: Warabi Mochi
-gummy gelatinous texture; melts fast

For $39 per person, 2 of my 3 friends also felt underwhelmed due to all the small portions and left hungry. So I ordered karaage chicken to share. The karaage was very juicy and crispy without being overfried.

Our server for the night was a gentleman and very attentive to all our needs.

I’m not impressed with the HRW menu offerings but I would gladly return here to sample other menu items or try out omakase. The sushi chef at the bar seems friendly.

This is my second time at Ichijiku, and I have to say, this is hands down my all-time favorite sushi spot in Houston. Even with only one server, the service was still fast, kind, and completely on point. You can really feel the care and intention behind everything here. Huge compliments to the chef and the entire staff for delivering such an amazing experience. Ichijiku is truly a hidden gem in Houston, and I’ll absolutely keep coming back.

Found this gem on instagram so my friend and I decided to give it a try. We chose the omakase sashimi for each of us and also ordered kanpachi jalapeño(happy hour) , 72 hr age Kama, chicken kaarage, some more sashimi (uni), and two rolls.
They offer great quality fish, great ambiance, and good service.
Minus here is that there are way too many menu sheets and we were completely getting lost looking at them. Recommend combining them into a binder or something.

We tried the AYCE Omakase and it was really good!

They start you off with an Omakase consisting of miso soup, an appetizer sampler, 5 nigiris, and a 4 piece hand cut roll. All of the fish was fresh and delicious, except for one of them which was really chewy and unpleasant. Definitely get the Hirame though, that was my favorite.

My qualm is that I got pretty full by the time the AYCE comes along that I didn’t fully get to appreciate the rest of the menu. The 100 min limit made me also worried I wasn’t going to have enough time, but that’s more than enough time.

I know some reviewers have mentioned that they take their time with the nigiris, but our party of 4 did not find that to be the case.

I love this place and I will 100% come back but I prefer their happy hour menu better.
