We used to love this place. Best sushi around. Since new owners the sushi is awful. Mushy and no distinct flavors. Everything tasted old. Even on a Friday night. They have ruined the menu. My neighborhood spot is ruined. Plus they expect a 25% tip on to go. Absolutely awful. Last time we will ever order here. New owners completely missed the mark. Soy sauce in packets now and small containers of nasty sushi. No thank you. Go somewhere else.

Haven’t been in years, went in today to see it’s recently renovated with new ownership! I tried the rolls I remember enjoying (pimp daddy, red dragon, st. petersburg, gator roll) and got the best tuna and avacado I’ve ever had, maybe the best sushi I’ve had period! every bite blew me away, just so so so fresh. Service was prompt, very helpful and friendly. Undeniably better than hooks and I can’t wait to support this business in the future. Keep it up!

Just came back to Ichiban Izakaya for the first time since the new ownership took over, and wow — what a difference.
The sushi was honestly some of the best I’ve had in St. Pete, second only to Sushi Sho in my book. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, well-cut, and clearly made by someone who really cares about quality.
You can tell the new owner is genuinely passionate about the food and the experience. Service was great, the vibe felt welcoming, and every single thing we ordered was excellent.
I’ve tried a lot of sushi spots around here, and this is officially my new go-to daily driver sushi restaurant. If you haven’t been back since the management change, do yourself a favor and give them another shot — they’re doing it right.

My first time. I had excellent dinner with my sister. The steak and sauce was perfect. Juicy and tender. Love spicy papaya salad with kick. Also got spider roll. That was money. Our server Bobby was amazing. We are Laos and she took great care of us. Definitely recommend friends and family.
