The Ichiban Story As veterans of the food service industry, siblings Kam and Ling Ngai knew what they wanted to do with Ichiban Brand. The restaurant was to be simple, clean, open. The food is surprising, inventive, delicious. Excellence was the watch word. Excellence on a daily basis. And the long-term goal was to expand the meaning of Asian cuisine in the Metro Area. At Ichiban it doesn’t just mean tempura and teriyaki, though these certainly are on the menu. Asian food also means subtle and surprising flavors, and flavor profiles from all across the Far East. Come sample the flair today!

I used to love this restaurant but lately the quality has gone down. My family ate there yesterday. We arrived a few minutes after opening for lunch. Most of the food was already cold, the fried chicken was still raw inside. There have been other times that my daughter has come to fix a plate for dinner and the food looked dry like it was left over from lunch. I hope they will see this and try to make improvements.

I am a frequent customer at your establishment and usually enjoy my visits. However, I had a disappointing and uncomfortable experience during my most recent visit.

Upon arrival, I checked in using my phone number on the iPad as I normally do. After signing in, I received a reward notification for $10 off my purchase. Following the on-screen instructions, I took a photo of the reward to present to the cashier. When I showed the image to my waitress Lovina she informed me that it needed to be shown as a text message instead. I then showed her the text message I received, but she took it to another employee for verification.(*the lady in the picture)

At that point, both employees questioned the validity of the message and implied that I might have fabricated it because it came from an “unknown number.” I was taken aback by the accusation because the lady in the picture was there when I typed my number in the iPad and I tried to explain that I had simply followed the process as instructed. Unfortunately, one of the employee (*lady in the picture) the manager or owner was particularly dismissive and unprofessional, gesturing for me to move along and speaking to me in a condescending tone.

The entire exchange was embarrassing and made me feel disrespected in front of other guests. The lack of professionalism and courtesy was deeply disappointing. I couldn’t help but feel that I was being treated differently, and it left me very uncomfortable.

I value good customer service and mutual respect, and I hope this feedback encourages your team to address this type of behavior. Sadly, after this experience, I do not feel comfortable returning.

Update: upon cashing out at the waitress Lovina continued to mock, pick and bully me that I used to fabricated text message. “she stated “next time use the original text message and not a fake one.” I just find it flabbergasting that I was accused of such after spending my hard earned money here. I won’t return back and I encourage others to proceed with caution.

Quick service at lunch. Delicious food, large portions, with plenty leftovers.
Restaurant was clean and well maintained. Would visit again when in the area.
Was Valentine’s Day and only had dinner portions and prices even at lunch.

It was absolutely the worst Chinese buffet my family and I have ever had. The other Ichiban locations are good, but this was a total disappointment. Everything tasted like it was a frozen dinner and not a good one. (If there is such a thing) They had raw oysters, but given the nature of the rest of the food, I was afraid to try them. Even the egg drop soup was lack luster, and the fried wontons were stale. I will not be going back, and I suggest you stay away and avoid the disappointment.

Of the three Ichiban locations in the Jackson metro area, the Madison location is the worst. We ate there last night and the food was luke warm and not good. One staff employee was rudely sweeping the floor and banging the dust pan so loud causing customers to turn and look. They were also throwing the dirty dishes into the busing tub sounding like they would break causing people to jump. The Ichiban locations in Pearl and Flowood are top notch with very friendly staff. Don’t waste your money at the Madison location.

Food was good, but I will not be back. It’s a buffet with no discount for seniors. I can eat lunch at a hibachi grill for less. To add insult to injury a mandatory tip of over $2 was added to my bill for a serve yourself buffet! Someone got me a glass of water, never checked to see if I needed more.

I got sesame chicken, Honey chicken, Fried rice, Lo mein, And potstickers. The breading on everything was stale. And everything was room temp. This was at 11:30 AM.. I feel like there’s no excuse for the food to taste old and cold when the restaurant JUST opened its doors for the day. Even then dang fortune cookies were stale.

If you are going here for sushi on the buffet, don’t go. We sat and waited for an hour and no new sushi was put out. I asked and was told that anything additional would be ordered separate.

Total waste of money, server and sushi ‘chef’ had nothing to say but no even when I asked for just fish.

This place used to be awesome, go to the one across the Rez, this one is a total waste of money. Never again.

The food here is not great, plus got charged 55 dollars for two people because of a “seafood day” that we had no idea about, and actually didn’t include any “seafood” other than the seafood that every one of their locations always has on regular days. Be very careful not to go on seafood days and make sure to read their tiny sign about it on the door upon entry!

i have been eating the sunday seafood buffet for about a year. the current state of the main dishes, including seafood, chicken, and meat is very poor. except for shrimp it is stale, overbreaded and overcooked. service is ok and consists of bringing your drink and collecting payment. there is a good selection of fresh fruit.price is $23 base plus $3 for tea, tax and tip. i left $32 on 9/28/2025. the place used to be packed on sunday, today it was sparse. I am a big fan of asian food but there are no good choices in this area,
