Best Southern Breakfast Around — Don’t Miss the Biscuits!
If you’re anywhere near Cassatt, SC, do yourself a favor and stop by Highway 1 Cafe for breakfast—you won’t regret it! This little roadside gem serves up some of the best Southern breakfast I’ve ever had.
From the moment you walk in, the friendly staff makes you feel like family. The atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious, just the kind of place you’d expect to find real, down-home cooking—and they deliver.
Let’s talk about the biscuits. Oh my word—flaky, buttery, and absolutely melt-in-your-mouth. Whether you get them with sausage gravy, as part of a breakfast sandwich, or just on their own with a little jam, they’re worth the trip alone. I’d drive out of my way just for those biscuits!
The rest of the breakfast menu is just as impressive—fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, golden hash browns, and fresh coffee that’s always hot. Everything was cooked to perfection and served with a smile.

I got the Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwich and Sweet Potato Raw Fries. 10/10 some of the best chicken I had on a sandwich. My dad had the buffet. His only complaint is that both the chicken and the BBQ were dry on the buffet. Other than that we had a very good time here yesterday. We will definitely return in the future.

March 2024 – Cassat deserves more than a blink as you pass by. The post office (open 2 hours daily), the general store (which seems to have more storage space than retail stock), and the Church (with 2 centuries of members’ lives memorialized in the graveyard). But the buffet at the diner was full of activity during my much-overdue first visit. I planned to just eat fried chicken and accidentally got a catfish nugget too. For my following trips to the buffet bar – it was all catfish nuggets!

If I had known I’ve lived 10 minutes away for the past 16 years, I would have absolutely been by more often. Everyone I’ve interacted with here are such sweet souls. They are so kind and welcoming! Their prices are extremely fair, and portions are enough to fill you up. I haven’t had lunch here yet, but I can vouch for breakfast when I say it’s amazing. 6/11/25 I spent roughly $20 for 3 people’s orders. 1. Cheesy Grits and Sausage patties, 2. French Toast Platter with grits and bacon, 3. 1 pancake, grits, and bacon. I can see this being a weekly tradition with my coworkers with how wonderful everything is here. Thank you, Hwy 1 Café for fueling our days when we really, really needed it. We definitely greatly appreciate you and what you provide!

I love this place. We’ve gone only four times because of the distance. The food is delicious, the service however has never been good. One server even told us the service was a little scattered because of the partying the night before which was the fourth of July. Our original server never came back after we asked for tarter sauce. We flagged down another server for the condiment that we did finally receive half way through our fish. We felt forgotten but had really good food.
