This place is great! I ordered both types of buns, the Yasai Ramen, and the garden salad.
The buns were amazing, all the flavors went together really well and it all tasted so fresh and there was a nice kick to it. The ramen was superrrr yummy. I usually get tonkotsu ramen and was a little nervous to get vegetarian broth this time, but it was surprisingly creamy and so good I was ready for another bowl! The garden salad was also fresh and delicious.
Overall everything tasted great and I can’t wait to go back 🙂

Second visit: egg rolls, chicken teriyaki were good, Thai tea had too much milk tasted watered down compared to first visit. Waiter chased us out the door and demanded why we did not tip. Service was at best okay, never asked if we needed anything or how food was. I had to flag her down to order a second Thai tea with less milk this time.
First visit: Thai tea is to die for!!!! Crab wantons, hottie hottie were amazing! Spicy miso soup was good if you like miso. mango tango was good small bite size, crunchy salmon was fishy, spicy tako had a good crunch small bite size.

By a stroke of luck found Hungry Sumo. Loved the Bayview vibe and the food and sushi was delicious. Loved the Black Rice option. Infortunately, they don’t have a full cocktail bar, however, the wine was decent and beer selections. We will return!

Great food and many options to choose from. We liked everything we got. Beauty and beast roll and hottie hottie were really good and would recommend along with the sumo pork bun. We would highly recommend those 3.

Probably the best miso broth I’ve tasted. The spicy miso broth wasn’t too spicy and you could taste how rich it was.
Pork chashu was different than any other pork belly I’ve had but in the best way. Not the biggest bowl in terms of serving size, but totally worth it. Next time I plan to try the tonkotsu.

Delicious! This is a small Japanese restaurant that does not take reservations. However it is worth the wait! The service is kind and fast, and most importantly, all the food was fantastic! Would highly recommend the crab wontons for an appetizer. The contemporary maki are large (big enough for one person if also sharing an appetizer). I think it’s been my favorite sushi in the Milwaukee area!

Hungry Sumo continues to serve up some of the best sushi and other Japanese specialties. The restaurant is busy the moment it opens but the service remains very high.

I am obsessed with Hungry Sumo! The summer maki is a favorite of mine, I love the jalapeño and avocado combination with the tuna and white fish. I also love their gyoza, salmon maki, smoky rocky roll, and pad Thai. I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant!

Well the atmosphere was very authentic. Really felt I was in Japan. We ordered the Hungry Set so we could get a variety of sushi. The presentation was great. Our appetizer was calamari and let me tell you it was one of the most tasteful calamari I had in awhile. The sushi was fresh and tasteful. Now the food we ordered was a bit bland so needed a bit of salt or soy sauce to bring out the flavor. The service was descent. It was kinda busy but I still believe the waitress did an excellent job. She knew the menu very well and gave us some recommendations that we took and turned out to be a good decision. The selection of saki was great. Not bitter but a delightful sweet drink. So I’d recommend you go to The Hungry Sumo and try the sushi and have some saki.

We’ve been coming here for three years, and it’s truly one of my favorite Asian restaurants in Milwaukee. As a huge foodie (and an Asian from Southeast Asia), I was excited when I discovered Hungry Sumo. The staff and cooks are Thai, incredibly friendly, and the food is consistently delicious.
Most people gravitate toward the Japanese dishes, but you’re seriously missing out if you don’t try the Thai offerings! Don’t just order pad Thai, branch out! I love their green curry, drunken noodles, pad kee mao, tom yum, and their ramen is fantastic too.
I highly recommend this place if you’re craving delicious Thai dishes, ramen, or rice bowls. I don’t eat raw fish, so I stick to their tempura or cooked sushi, and both have been excellent. Also, don’t miss out on their lunch specials.
Plus, they’re wonderfully friendly with kids!
Keep up the great work, Hungry Sumo! The only thing I wish they offered is reservations, because it gets packed so quickly. 🙂
