It was my first trip to San Pedro last week; Hungry Grouper was the first place we chose to eat and we were not disappointed. EVERYTHING was amazing: food, service and overall vibe. Our host, and chef, Argyle was very friendly and made us all feel like we were dining in his home.
His passion and excitement for food was apparent. I had the snapper in a coconut sauce topped with blackened shrimp and every bite was perfect. Even the sides of coleslaw, and rice, which Argyle added some of his magic to were delicious! My family also raved about their meals and everyone was quite happy with what they chose.
Argyle was also very kind to give us ideas about some of the best places to go during our stay. If you’re in San Pedro make Hungry Grouper a top priority on your list. You will not be disappointed!

The restaurant is very low key. If you’re the type for the ambiance of a restaurant, this may discourage from going in. That being said Argyle was VERY gracious and he makes EVERY dinner from scratch. No prepared steam table stuff. We started with the conch ceviche…..oh my God delicious. Then for dinner we had the blackened snapper and grouper. Both meals were EXCELLENT in flavor, appearance and quantity. You can NOT go wrong eating here.

$140 Bz for this? We ordered two meals of coconut crusted grouper with jerk shrimp topping and were very disappointed. Food was edible , but no coconut in the crust and no jerk seasoning and very small portions and crazily overpriced. Not recommended.

We were a little nervous walking in because no one was in there so we walked around the area and found nothing else that looked good and went back and we weren’t disappointed! I couldn’t decide what I wanted so the owner cooked me a mix of two things and it was outstanding. The owner was so kind and the food was so inexpensive, it was incredible. Oh and he made me homemade hot sauce!!!

Recommended by a local, I ordered the fried grouper and wife the fried snapper. We had choice of sides and sauce mix. Must say the flavor of the fish was great, ate everything on our plates. The inside is small so not good for large groups of people, service was good even short staffed. Only issue I had was portion size left me hungry when we left, had my mind set on a thick large portion of grouper but got a thin small portion.

Amazing food! The cook/owner/waiter is awesome. We spent 4 nights and this was the top choice so we came back the final night. Blackened snapper is dynamite. Other places (El Fagon, Truck Stop, Elvi’s) were all good, but this was the best.

The food was so good we came back for a second time! This was our first visit to San Pedro. I was looking for places to eat and found this place and we are so happy we did. The service is great. And so are the drinks. The food is absolutely amazing! In fact it was so good that the rest of the visit my husband just kept talking about going back here. Between our family we got to try most of the menu and everything was delicious. And fresh! This will be a regular stop every time we visit the island.
