This place was a huge disappointment from start to finish. As soon as you walk in, they automatically demand an 18% tip, which immediately sets a bad tone — especially before you’ve even received any service.
The restaurant itself was not clean, which made the experience even worse. We ordered two kids’ meals — fried shrimp and fried chicken — and neither of my kids could eat them. The breading was bland, clearly lacking even basic salt and pepper. The shrimp batter wasn’t cooked through; when bitten into, it was still doughy inside. There were barely three pieces of shrimp on the plate, placed on a bed of crispy filler to make the portion look bigger than it actually was.
The same thing happened with the chicken strips — four tiny pieces (about 1×3 inches each) arranged on a pile of crispy filler to create the illusion of a larger serving.
My own meal was just okay, but even that was misleading. It claimed to be garnished with lettuce, but the lettuce was clearly being used as filler to bulk up the plate and make it look larger than it was. The portion itself was small and underwhelming.
To top it all off, I’m now sitting at home regretting the decision to eat here, with my stomach turning and rumbling. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience, and I would not return.

Dont go. Wife & i had lunch that according to menu prices should have been under $20.00. Portions were smaller than previous visits. Food quality was poor. Sauces are watered down. They added their idea of the tip into the bill mandatory and said the menu prices were wrong. Total was over $33.00. I won’t go back.

I normally would NEVER write a review like this, but the service tonight was horrendous in a way I was taken aback by.

We have been loyal customers since I was a kid, and we wanted to order some dinner tonight (Christmas Eve) while I’m back in town visiting family. My wife has never had the chance to try their food, so I was excited! I just needed to ask about one of her requests bc she has a food allergy. I totally understand being busy, we waited half an hour on the phone calling repeatedly just to try and place an order. No biggie! I get it, big busy night- I was totally okay with the wait.

My problem is what happened AFTER the wait. First, I was asked to “wait a second” to order and then could hear them unmuted walking around with the phone into the kitchen and while helping other customers. Incredibly loud and at multiple points I couldn’t tell if they were speaking to me or not. I also heard whomever was on the phone with me arguing with a different customer over her asking about a missing item.

Finally after multiple minutes of this he asks me “what do you want?” Very hostile right out of the gate.

My wife has food allergies to most meats, so I asked him a very simple question. I asked if the egg rolls had meat or not. Very simple, just a yes or no to confirm it’s safe for my wife to eat.

His response was “I’m not answering questions, you order it now or you don’t”. Said he was “too busy” multiple times to simply say yes or no. It’s literally JUST yes or no. Does it have meat or not?! In the time it took him to rudely and repeatedly swear he couldn’t answer my questions he absolutely 1000% could have just said yes or no. Then, after I clarified that I was sorry but I had to ask bc it’s an allergy, he hung up on me without even saying anything in response.

Again. I understand they are busy. In fact I’m happy they were! It’s a great restaurant- or at least that’s what I thought before tonight. The whole reason I am not leaving a 1 star review is that the food has always been excellent and generally I’ve always loved chatting with the staff. But this was absolutely unacceptable and an insanely rude way not just to speak to a customer but to another human being.

Quite frankly, I do not even trust eating somewhere where the staff can’t even tell you if an egg roll is meat or veggie. It’s so insanely simple that it makes me doubt any of their food safety and quality control. I am heartbroken that I will never feel comfortable eating here again, and that I can’t recommend their food to anyone with a food allergy or restriction.

My wife and her friends got a table. Had excellent service, food, and drink. They have a fully loaded bar. Lots of cocktail options.

Also, when we left, my wife left her phone and boxed food at the table. The hostess/waitress rushed it out to us before we left.

Please give them a visit.

Despite the recent reviews we went in today for a late lunch. We got the beef lomein, lemon chicken, seaseme chicken and the Kung bao beef. Huge side of white rice and we got a side of pork fried rice as well! All the dishes were hot, fresh and super delicious. It is not a super fancy place but it is clean and smelled nice. The bathroom was clean just not fancy. Over all we are glad to have eaten here!

heard that this was one of the better chinese restaurants in jeff city so we came here for dinner! the prices were astonishingly affordable, with beef entrees coming in at around $12 each. prices for lo mein and fried rice were ~$9. we were served hot tea in tea cups, which we were pleasantly surprised by. for appetizers, we had crab rangoons and hot and sour soup, which were yummy, for our mains, we ordered hunan beef, king pao beef and sweet and sour chicken. we liked all the dishes and appreciated that it came with a heaping serving of rice for the three of us! the service was very quick and hospitable too.

We have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years. We don’t come that often but when we do the food is always very good. The food is always hot and they bring hot tea to the table at no cost.
My favorite is cashew chicken. It is done the way I like it and the rice is brought family style. It is a little dark in the restaurant and a bit dated but the service and food make up for that. We also ordered crab rangoons and they were excellent.
As always a very good experience.

As of today October the 27th 2025 approximately around 8:15 pm I saw a man basically one of the cooks with a white apron on and a white bag coming out the woods close to a warehouse or maybe a garage that’s behind the building entering inside the restaurant with a white bag with something in it I noticed that there was a lot of black cats in the back with food bowls laying around but for him to be coming after back of the woods in the middle of the night with a a bag that has something in it is strange I will be reporting them to the health department because he was looking suspicious like he was doing something that was unprofessional he was trying to make sure didn’t nobody see but I saw what happened i just so happen to be riding back there to leave the laundromat and notice him coming out the back of the woods with a white bag behind a warehouse or possibly garage If I were you all I would not eat there I never had it or tried it but I saw something that didn’t look right and there were also another guy holding the door for him looking out to make sure he got back in the building safe giving you all the heads up that like eating there

Human Restaurant on the Boulevard has been one of my favorite places. One of the few Chinese restaurants where I eat with a fork, oddly. Largely from nostalgia than anything else. However, with the dynamic Asian restaurant scene in JCMO, they kind of struggle as of late.
I rate the food as a five – largely from how good our family’s mainstays taste – their take on Springfield cashew chicken (yes, Springfield style, which is different than what most of they country serves for cashew chicken), crab rangoons and their egg drop soup. I’ve had a couple of their other dishes before including their General’s chicken…which if I recall, is also different that what normally constitutes General Tso’s/Tao’s Chicken, but was tasty nonetheless. If anything, their Cashew chicken is a real treat. Sweet, savory and mild and usually fresh from the kitchen, especially at lunch. Their egg drop soup is also unique, but has a clean broth and the egg has a good texture to it.
Unfortunately, I have to rate the service and atmosphere lower. Again, this comes from them struggling against local competition. The dining area is a bit dark and I might recommend a little more lighting for the room, especially at lunch. I like a slightly darker ambience, especially in the summer…but I think it’s a tad too dark. The decor has largely been the same for the last couple decades and it can use an update. Doesn’t need to be trendy, but some updated furniture and decor to keep the same traditional vibe with a slight update would help. The service was OK, but nothing spectacular.
Also a couple things to keep in mind; lunch runs about $8.50 to $10.00 and includes hot tea, soup and appetizer. It’s a good price, but it jumped up from what it used to be ($5.50ish). Also, they include gratuity for all customers, not just large groups. This point is something I’d hope they consider scaling back to just large groups once again.
Would I go there for a couple specific dishes? Absolutely. However, even if I was in the Show Me State, I don’t think I’d be a regular there. Even so, it’s worth checking out.
