The best thing of this venue is the price! Price is actually affordable and reasonable based on the location and Washington DC itself. Food portion is large as America standard however it is too oily for my taste and it can be a fusion rather I would say true Hunan/Chinese cuisine. Atmosphere is the typical Chinese-next-door restaurant. Peking duck set is actually good.

This place is a gem for authentic Chinese food. The Peking duck was absolutely delicious — crispy skin, juicy meat, and perfectly seasoned. You can really tell it’s done the traditional way.

The Tianjin-style buns were another highlight. Soft, fluffy, and packed with flavorful filling, they were easily some of the best I’ve had outside of China.

Service was friendly and efficient, and the overall atmosphere was warm and comfortable. Definitely a spot I’d come back to and recommend to anyone craving real Chinese cuisine.

Best Chinese food I’ve had in DC. The staff was amazing and so kind. They also had great recommendations. The food was delicious and very generous portions for the price.

This is one of the most impressive Chinese restaurants I’ve been to. The food is authentic, flavorful, and generously portioned — every dish tasted fresh and carefully prepared. The fried rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked, and the main dishes were rich and savory, showing the chef’s skill and attention to detail.

I also really appreciated the warm and welcoming service here. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly. The dining area was clean and comfortable, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Whether you’re coming with friends or family, this is a fantastic place to enjoy a delicious meal. I’ve already recommended it to others and will definitely be coming back!

I visited Hunan Dynasty after seeing glowing reviews on Red Note (小红书), especially about their steamed baozi. The owner is from Tianjin, a region known for savory buns, so I had to try them.

They came out piping hot, stuffed with flavorful pork and whole shrimp, wrapped in soft, spongy dough. These reminded me of my mom’s homemade buns and that’s saying a lot. Each order includes 6 medium sized buns. A bit pricy, but worth it for the quality and rarity.

We also ordered the grilled whole fish, seafood tofu casserole, Mongolian lamb, and stir-fried Chinese greens from the authentic menu. All were flavorful, just a touch salty for me, but perfect with rice.

Friendly service, cozy and spacious setting. I’ll definitely be back especially for the baozi!

The food here is awesome! Excellent and authentic Chinese food!! I came here for a family lunch function and we ordered this spicy fish dish, Peking duck, sweet and sour pork, shrimp, bao buns, and Dan Dan noodles, which were all tasty! Highly recommend for anyone on Capital Hill looking for some good Chinese food to indulge in.

I visited DC as a group of 6 (2 adults,4 teenagers). We stopped here last second because the other place we were going to go to was closed. Great food, great service. I liked that there was a “lazy susan” in the middle of the table. we ordered 3 entrees and an appetizer, and everyone got to try a little bit of it all. Very positive experience, and great waitstaff.

I had dinner here last night – and it was just okay! I was so bummed that it didn’t meet my expectations. I ordered a wonton soup – which is typically in a delicious broth, but they clearly used a buillon cube because it was extremely salty and highlighter yellow. The wontons inside the soup were tasty, but again the salt from the fake broth overpowered and ruined it for me. Then I ordered the Pekking duck which I googled this restaurant for specifically – and again just OK /Sub par. The presentation was beautiful but I got a piece without too much edible meat for the price! Full of fatty pieces and clearly deep fried in a vegetable oil because it was all I could taste. Really disappointed, unfortunately I won’t be coming back. The server was nice but not too personable, and I was one of three tables seated. I can’t understand if this is the allotted of food /service all the time or if it was because I came an hour and a half before closing. Attached is a photo of the wonton soup coloring and presentation.

******UPDATE –
I’m honestly baffled by how bad this meal was. I’ve given Hunan Dynasty a few chances, but this time was the last straw.

The wonton soup was highlighter yellow with chewy, inedible pork — the texture was off and tasted unpleasant. The General Tso’s chicken was even worse: mostly thick breading with barely any meat inside, and what little chicken there was felt undercooked and full of weird ligaments. The sauce was pure sugar — more like corn syrup than anything resembling a balanced dish.

The Dan Dan noodles arrived cold, flavorless, and greasy, with the meat tasting stale and chewy. Even the vegetable spring rolls were over-fried and dripping in oil, leaving a coating of vegetable grease instead of any real flavor.

Overall, this meal was completely inedible. For the price and reputation, this was shockingly low quality — everything tasted mass-produced and carelessly prepared. Definitely would not recommend or reorder.

Human dynasty is one of those dual restaurant that cater both to non-chinese that knows absolutely nothing of Chinese food except Americanized dishes and actual Chinese. However you cannot fault them for doing so as its proximity to the Capitol building. It’s the default Chinese restaurant for people working close by. Btw there is a section of Chinese dish in the menu that caters to Chinese customers and they label them to be “authentic” Chinese dish. This place catered to many “celebrity” politicians as you can see from the photos.

The restaurant has a tiny door that leads to upstairs space that’s surprisingly roomy.

The problem with a dual restaurant like this however is that they cannot predict the clienteles so you won’t be getting fresh ingredients if you are a picky Chinese customer like me. For example the frogs they use are frozen frog legs which means they are basically tasteless and not fresh.

The better idea is to order basic meat such as lamb, beef or pork but not fish nor frogs.

The Peking duck is misleading as the photos show very authentic cuts but in reality it’s basically wrong including using tortillas for wrap which I hate. Just use real wraps even if you don’t know how to properly roast Peking duck. Of course it’s a good place to go if you miss Peking duck and the price is not bad.

I do like the services as it’s attentive and I like the people working there.

Decent Chinese restaurant and one of the best I’ve ever been! What’s so special about it is no matter where you’re from you can always find what you expect a Chinese restaurant would offer. Pork bun has a whole shrimp in it my favorite! 北方人认证:大包子八珍豆腐豪赤!!
