We discovered this place while we were up at Mayo for services. We’d never been there before and it looked interesting. Don’t let the fact that it’s in a strip mall fool you. This place is legit. The food and dishes seem to be extremely authentic .
They have a lot of very different menu items that you won’t find any place else including frog legs.
The portion sizes are huge and you get a great value for your money. One meal easily will feed two people.
The decor was very peaceful and would be a great place to take a date.
Staff is also extremely friendly and fast.

we stumbled upon this place while having dinner last night next-door and after a full day of testing at Mayo we had a craving for Chinese. .
Hunan bistro did not disappoint. This is the real deal. The food was fresh and the service was excellent.
don’t be fooled by the storefront look as the interior is massive and can see a lot of people.
The serving are large enough to share and still go home satisfied.
next time you’re in Rochester, don’t pass this one up.

You might not find this place without knowing that it’s there. FIND IT!. You’ll be happy that you did. These people care about the food they’re serving…Scallion pancakes and egg rolls were excellent and paired with flavorful sauce. Pork fried rice was classic and delicious. Dry pot frog legs extra spicy with vegetables were fresh and fantastic. I’m a sucker for crispy duck. This wasn’t a regular 5 spice duck. It was special. Thanks for a great experience

I really enjoyed my visit to Hunan Bistro. The ambiance was beautiful—loved the decorations and furniture. We ordered General Tso’s Chicken, and it wasn’t overly sweet like at most places. The Eggplant in Garlic Chili Sauce was superb. We also got the House Special Fried Rice. It was simple but so tasty. This will be my go-to spot for good fried rice from now on! The staff were also very friendly and attentive. Great experience overall!

Recommended by a few friends and decided to try it out. We ordered cumin lamb and fish soup with preserved veggie. Both around $22-$25. Lamb tasted a bit interesting because its lacking the meat texture. The fish is good though. I would recommend that and they can make it less spicy! Everything is good just a bit pricey and portion is small.

This place just open a month ago and I was totally surprised that the food was pretty good! The portions are huge especially the fried rice! The wait staff were very friendly and pleasant! We were there around 5 pm and too busy but by the time we left, the place was pack! We had the following:
Salt and Pepper Shrimp (cooked perfectly with awesome spices)
Spicy Dry-Pot Beef (spicy and very favorable)
Eggplant with chili garlic sauce (great flavor and eggplant was very tender)
Sautéed celery with dried Tofu (the tofu pieces were kinda hard and wasn’t enough celery)
Pork Fried Rice (the pork was very tasty and the rice was perfect texture)
Beef Noodle stew with Soybean Sauce (the noodles were cooked perfectly, not too soft, great soup too)
Very nice place to hang out with friends!

We had the private room, so I cannot comment on the standard dining room experience.
Staff was attentive, they were quick to take our orders and answer questions.
The food was received in a timely manner…even for a dinner party size of 11.

Good chinese food is hard to come by. The food has great balance and was not too salty or, in most cases, too sugary. We ordered Pork Fried Rice, Spicy dry pot Pork Intestine, Eggplant with chili garlic sauce, and Chongqin Spicy Chicken. Everything came out fast and hot. Every dish had its own unique flavor and portion are right on with the prices. Will definitely be making stops here when in Rochester. If you are a visual menu ordering person, some of the dishes do not look like the pictures on the menu.

This was my first time here. We got several dishes: pepper steak, beef chow fun, 10 flavor ribs, Japanese tofu, and scallion pancakes. The dishes were delicious 10 out of 10. Our favorite was the beef chow fun. It was so good that we got a second plate.
