We recently returned for a “redemption trip” after an experience a few months ago, but unfortunately, we won’t be back. While the service was great and the cooks were hardworking and friendly, the food quality was poor.

The issues started at the prep station with a stack of dirty bowls; we almost left then but managed to find two clean ones in the corner. The protein station had a noticeable “funky” smell, and we were surprised to see a lot of seafood but no shrimp.

The vegetable selection was missing things like green onions, bok choy, and peapods. Though the zucchini noodles were a nice touch. However, the next station area was unacceptable—the green beans were brown and clearly past their prime. Additionally, the canned vegetables (bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, etc.) were sitting in cloudy, unrinsed liquid, which was very unappealing.

Sauce area was really messy. I get it but we were there before dinner really started and not super busy so was surprised. I would recommend adding a simple soy sauce option for those avoiding sugary sauces.

Again, just not planning on coming back again. It’s a shame because the staff is wonderful, but the food is not great. (I hope it gets better because while I don’t plan on visiting- I don’t want to see another business in the area leave.)

Great food with many choices to put on the grill. We visited with the general manager (George) who was very friendly and made our visit pleasurable. He went out of his way to get us G.F. soy sauce for our meal. Our waitress, Destiny was helpful too. We were surprised that there aren’t any HuHot Grills in the Twin Cities. We enjoyed our 1st visit to HuHot!

One of the newer cooks had a issue cooking Calamari I talked with George the General Manager who cooked me up a new batch that was delicious he also brought me some gluten free soy sauce. Our server was Destiny who was very cheerful and attentive to our needs. We had some good food today, thanks for taking care of us. I hope we get one near us in the Twin Cities.

I hadn’t been in since it was Mongo’s, I was so happy to finally make it in today for lunch and to still have the food amazing made my day, but my server I think it was Kaylee, absolutely awesome service! She made my whole week if not month. We chatted as it had been awhile since I was there and she was top tier personable! I look forward to stopping in every time I am in town and I hope she is working every time!

First time going since it was Mongos. It’s ok. The service and the grill warrior was great. Somewhat disappointed with the protein options ( only pollock and (imitation?) Crab for fish options. They serve the rice separately, not off the grill. No egg on the grill either… $62 for four people seems fair for all you can eat ( and take home, you can go back and have as many bowls cooked as you want). Waitresses no longer pack your leftovers.

Wouldn’t go out of my way to come back. Food wasn’t stocked very well. Mongos was alot better. The cooks at Mongos would be fun and outgoing. The cooks here feel like they hate there jobs. Using the same cooking spatula for everyone’s meal is kinda gross. Waiter didn’t fill our beverages once. Definitely not coming back

Some improvements to the experience were improved with the transition to HuHot, but overall it took a step down. The food is still good, and seems to be good quality ingredients, however much of your dish depends on you. The service has diminished from its predecessor. The atmosphere, well if you like a good “greasy spoon” this is the modern day version. When it was Mongo’s it was easy to get a group to go for lunch, now it never comes up as an option when a group of us are going and I tend to go on days when I’m having lunch alone. This place could use an investment of love and cash if its going to be successful. I do wish HuHot the best as I enjoy this style of dining and will continue to be a patron.

First time being to HuHot and wasn’t overly impressed. Used to come here often when was Mongo’s.

The food selection was ok. Many things were either not labeled or clearly mislabeled and everything was a mess. The oil station needed to be cleaned up badly and with the amount of employees there and standing around, not sure why it was like this. Went between lunch and dinner time on a Sunday so wasn’t very busy. Had an ok amount of selections for protein, but some of the meat like the sausage was cut so thick it wasn’t enjoyable. The noodle selection is definitely lacking as there were just two options. The person on the grill was very inconsistent and burnt my food and didnt fully cook my partners. (We were the only two people in “line”.

Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable. He walked us through the differences which was nice and made sure to check in on us.

The state of the booths and tables etc. are not the best. They have definitely had their fair share of use over the years and it shows. (Cracked seats, laminate coming off/hanging or missing)

The fried rice was the best thing we had there, so would definitely recommend that if you try HuHot.

Overall, Im not sure if id recommend HuHot or not. Maybe it was an off day, but not sure if that was actually the case based on some other reviews I’ve seen. It definitely is not worth the 1-hour drive we would have to go back. Very disappointing.
