Reviews
It is quite rare for me to feel compelled to write a review for a restaurant. I only do so when the experience is exceptional. And my experience at Huddle House was exceptionally awful. I arrived around 7:00pm to a relatively quiet dining room of about 8-10 other patrons. The server behind the counter politely told me I could sit wherever I liked. I found my seat and waited. After nearly 10 minutes, I helped myself to a menu in the wait station next to my table. A few minutes later, the waitress found her way to the table and apologized for the wait. She got my drink and took my order. Which was, out of sheer curiosity, the ribeye steak with texas toast, mac & cheese, and mashed potatoes with gravy as sides. After about another 15 minutes, I received my food. Seemingly being a direct competitor to Waffle House, my expectations were already low. And yet this meal still managed to disappoint. My ribeye – if one could call it that – was merely a 1/4-inch thick pork steak. It was cooked and seasoned well enough, but was certainly not the cut of beef I was anticipating. The mac & cheese was passable, though seemed to be swimming in far too much cheese sauce (the elementary cafeteria kind). My mashed potatoes – of which were instant -were hardly above room temperature and slathered in thick, far too salty, cold gravy. But the worst offender was probably the texas toast, because what I received was, in fact, an end-piece of white bread toast with no butter or garlic to speak of. To their credit, one of the cooks seemed to realize this and brought me a replacement; a standard slice of buttered toast. The service was passable and the employees were pleasant. Though, I don’t think I will ever return to Huddle House.
