Social Profile:

The story of Hu-Dat Oriental Restaurant began in Rockport-Fulton in 1993, when our family opened a small restaurant dedicated to sharing the authentic flavors of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Asian fusion cooking. Built on hard work, love, and recipes passed down through generations, Hudat quickly became a community favorite. In 2006, we brought that same passion to Portland, where the next generation now helps continue our family’s legacy. Throughout the years, our menu has grown and evolved — adding new dishes and flavors to adapt to modern tastes — while staying true to the heart and authenticity that made Hudat special from the start. For over 30 years, Hudat Oriental Restaurant has been where family, flavor, and community come together.

The food was great! Everything had good flavor and was delicious. The kimchi fries sound weird but were surprisingly one of the best items. We highly recommend them and the All Star. The staff was very attentive and courteous. The food tasted like the cooks took their time and cared about what they were making, not just knocking out orders. We highly recommend eating here if you’re in Portland or Corpus Christi. Its worth the drive.

It was my first time eating here and it was a great experience. I came around lunch time during the week and had a lunch special. OMG the hot & sour soup was delicious and I’m really picky about the seasonings in the soup. My hunan chicken plate was very flavorful and the portion was a lot that I took so many leftovers! My daughter got a child’s lo mein plate and it was a huge portion. Very worth your cost! Waiter was very friendly with describing what is the best on the menu as it was our first time.

We took our vacation in the area to visit some family that lives next town over. One of fiancé’s cousins took us there to eat. Was very impressed with everything. Now everytime we go visit we have to stop to eat there first and also the day we leave. We live in Greenville texas and there is nothing like this place over here. I tried numerous places that the menu shows they have chicken lettuce wraps and omg was no comparison to y’all’s. What we got was so bland and didn’t taste as good as y’all at all. Please bring Hudat to our area ❤️❤️ that would be great.

This was the fullest I’ve ever seen Hu Dat, and the service was still absolutely amazing. Jay was our waitress and she was hands-down the best — attentive, friendly, and on top of everything the entire time. Even with how busy it was, she never missed a beat and made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. She’s consistently been a great waitress every time we’ve had her, but tonight she truly stood out.

It’s honestly sad that some people can’t look around, see how packed the restaurant is, and use a little logic, compassion, and empathy for the staff — especially knowing that when a place is this full, things will naturally take a bit longer. Jay handled it all with professionalism and grace. Huge shout-out to her for exceptional service!

First time visiting this joint. We had a situation that made my wife feel very uneasy. Upon receiving our bill, our friends noticed there was a “service charge”. When asking the waiter what this was he acted dumbfounded and did not know what that could be. We asked him if this was his tip, because we always leave a decent tip, he still had no idea. We were a party of six so an automatic gratuity seemed to be the case so we went with that. After looking at it better at home it was indeed his 20% tip added to both our tickets. Very very unprofessional and obviously this waitstaff needs more training to understand what they are doing. If it wasn’t for that we would have gave a five star. Food was good and atmosphere was decent.

The last three times I’ve been here it’s taken no less than an hour and a half to receive a main course or entire order same when doing take out. While dining in and waiting that long I listened to apologies and shrugs to every single take out customer who were quoted some reasonable time only to come in and stand around waiting another 45 minutes after waiting 45 min to come in after placing orders. Laughed at myself for thinking it was just take out since that was why we went in and sat down only to realize unless you’re there at some random time you will wait for 90 minutes to get rice protein and veggies in a sauce. Even if you only have two or three plates. The entire restaurant is run by teenagers who at the very least want to have a good attitude but are just trying to keep everyone content enough to not realize they’ll be there two hours for what should be some of the fastest turnaround in food if it was an oriental restaurant in any other city.

Lauren was our waitress and did an awesome job! Great customer service and quick. The egg drop and wonton soups were very good. The egg rolls were light and crispy. The fried dumplings were good. The lettuce wraps were amazingly mouthwatering. The sauce for the wraps complimented the fresh crispy lettuce cups and the filling. I ordered the sesame chicken which I found ok but not super good and my fried rice tasted burnt. My husband got the Happy Family with the udon noodles and he really liked it. I will definitely be returning for the lettuce wraps.

Hu Dat was packed tonight, but Jay made our dinner feel easy and fun. She was so patient and joyful with me and my two energetic boys, keeping everything relaxed even in the middle of the rush. Her kindness and professionalism stood out, and she turned what could have been a stressful evening into a really enjoyable one. Big thanks to Jay for making us feel so welcome and for making our experience outstanding — she deserves recognition for her exceptional service!

Normally a great restaurant but we waited over an hour for fried rice, beef and broccoli and chicken lo mien. I went to the cashier and said cash me out for what we ate, three soup and three tea. $38 for a really bad experience and no food.

Hu Dat is the hidden gem of the gulf coast. Fantastic Vietnamese food at a fair price. I always go dumplings for the starter. Offered in a few types, steamed, wok fried, deep fried. All are delicious and tasty. Main dishes are on point. Chose Pho for this visit since the weather was cold outside. And it hit the spot perfectly, hot, flavorful broth. Tender meat and perfect noodles. A fantastic lunch.
