If you’re anywhere near the South Street Seaport, House of the Red Pearl is a must. Tucked away in the back of a storefront, the space feels like a well-kept secret, stylish, energetic, and buzzing for a reason. It books up quickly, but if you stop in on a whim, grab one of the bar seats reserved for walk-ins and consider yourself lucky.
The menu hits a sweet spot between comfort and curiosity. Everything carries the familiar flavors of a Chinatown visit, but with a creative, adventurous edge that keeps things exciting without losing authenticity. From start to finish, the execution is dialed in, and the service is just as sharp as the food. The cocktails are also top-notch and save room for dessert!

While in the city this past weekend I took my girlfriend down to the South Street Seaport. Although disappointed by the seaport not being what it was 30 years ago as I remember with all the cute little shops, Pier 17 provided great restaurant selection. After checking each and every one, we settled on House of the Red Pearl. Very glad we did. A little slow start as far as service but in the end it was made up for. We ordered two starters, the fried calamari and the chicken potstickers. The GF enjoyed the calamari and was pleasantly surprised with the accompanying lime puree. The potstickers were nothing to brag about until they were dipped in their pepper sauce…wow! We ended our meal by sharing a Garlic Ginger Chicken dish. Absolutely yummy! If your looking for some authentic NY Chinese food, check out the Red Pearl. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it. Second floor of the building behind the curtain!

I went to this lovely restaurant with my friends to celebrate Lunar New Year and the service staff were one of the most loveliest people I have ever met. Not only was the food delicious, but the drinks were amazing! The atmosphere was beautiful and it was overall such a great place to be in!

When you arrive upstairs you will see what looks like a mini Asian market shop , the restaurant is found when passing a doorway with a red fan. Once inside you are greeted with a stunning decor and servers eager to make your dining experience memorable !

Crystal was our server & she was outstanding, as well as the rest of the team!
All dishes came out fast, fresh & delicious! They are not afraid of spice, nor heat. If you need a little extra, ask for their chili powder, it’s delicious!
Dumplings were tender, generously filled & paired with a delicious chili oil.
The fried calamari was very lightly flash fried, not greasy at all. The ginger scallion topping was amazing.
The chilled sesame noodles were okay. It could’ve benefitted with the addition of some crushed, roasted peanuts, as it lacked depth of flavor & texture.
The black bean spare ribs were charred & lean. No grizzle or fat & not overly sweet.
The star of the feast was their black pepper Wagyu beef noodle dish! Add some chili powder to it & you’ll be in spicy heaven! The Wagyu melted in your mouth & the noodles had the perfect chew.
The grand finale was their fortune cookie sundae w/ fortune cookie ice cream, sesame crunch pieces, fudge on the bottom & marshmallow fluff pillows.
Highly recommend, especially for special occasions!

I recently had dinner at House of the Red Pearl. The vibe was great, cozy and beautifully designed. Service was warm and attentive, which I really appreciated.
The fried rice, though, was a bit too greasy for me. Also, the corner bar area could use a little more attention, it felt a bit unclean. Please fix!
Overall, the place has potential. With a few tweaks, it could be truly great.

We had the best experience at House of the Red Pearl! We came in for a late reservation and as we were close by looking for the entrance to the restaurant the Chef, Tony, saw us and courteously showed us to the host stand. Our table wasn’t quite ready so we ordered a drink at the bar. While waiting the General Manager, Wes, greeted us warmly and told us he had a small table available now or that he could offer us a nice booth in a short while. While enjoying two delicious cocktails, Wes himself notified us our booth was ready and escorted us with a tray for our drinks to our table. Shortly after seating us he approached the table with a delicious cucumber salad. He informed us that Chef Tony would be preparing us a chef’s tasting menu which we happily accepted. The two types of dumplings, spring rolls, and short ribs were brought to our table by Chef Tony himself. Each item was delicious and perfectly prepared. The service was incredible and the manager Edgar even said hello to us also and brought us champagne. The mango pudding and pineapple upside down cake were an amazing finish to an amazing meal. We were blown away by the hospitality from the entire staff top to bottom. What an incredible all around experience. 6 stars for Food, Service and Atmosphere!

Beautiful ambience, hidden inside the Tin building. Great service and flavorful food.
We had the black beef main course, which was substantial, spicy, and very tasty. It came with a hearty portion of noodles.
For appetizers, we had the pot stickers (amazing!) and the eggplant (soft and tasty).
Overall, everything was great and we will be back very soon!

We had been to the House of the Red Pearl this past summer for drinks and were excited to come for dinner.
This past week, my wife and I went to dinner. The service and atmosphere was excellent! The staff were courteous and pleasant. Because we were celebrating they brought out bubbly which was a thoughtful touch.
The food, however, was disappointing. We had the chicken pot stickers as an app which was okay. We were excited to try the Mala chicken, but it was a big let down. The chili peppers were not crispy/cooked and were stale. We have probably tried this dish dozens of times across NY, and this was the most disappointing version. We had the special with fried noodles and shrimp which was quite bland.
I would definitely go here again for drinks, but not for food.
