Took home some dim sum and a bento box. The “red carrot cake” with egg custard was not what we expected but we loved it! Think steamed mochi outside colored and shaped to look like a carrot stuffed with a slightly sweer egg custard. Next up are the brown sugar rice cakes. These are rice cakes with a gel/jelly beown sugar filling then steamed and topped with more brown sugar. Unexpectedly good ! Plus we had to get the lotus nut filled sesame balls! And final dim sum item is the steamed shrimp balls. Love that the dim sum is always available!
For the bento box we selected chicken teriyaki, pork fried rice, California roll, and an egg roll. Can’t wait to go back and try more items! Definitely worth stopping in.
Spicy Pork Soup Dumplings $12.85
Nice amount of heat and very satisfying
Homemade Pork & Cabbage Dumplings $12.30
Well seasoned with warming spices and very comforting
Drunken Noodle (Spicy) with Tofu $12.95 (+$2 for tofu)
Biang Noodle With Pork (Spicy) $14.95
Both dishes had amazing noodles with an incredible chewy texture. The noodles were easily the standout of the meal and seriously crave worthy.
That said, neither dish was spicy at all despite being labeled spicy on the menu. We added chili oil provided by the staff to bring up the heat level, which helped a lot.
Great flavors, solid portions, and some of the best noodle texture around. If you enjoy hand pulled style noodles, this spot is definitely worth a visit.
We would absolutely come back, just be ready to add your own spice if you want any real heat!
My husband ordered the shrimp lo mein and loved it. The menu is huge, with tons of options—truly something for everyone. I had a beer, and they also have a solid drink selection to choose from. We’ll definitely be back.
However, what caught my attention and convinced me to try this establishment was their listing of biang biang noodles and rougamo. These have not yet reached the sort of critical popularity like Sichuan food where every Chinese restaurant tries to have some Sichuan menu items, no matter how well executed. These are still niche enough that I thought that either the establishment was confident in or there was enough of a market for them to have it. I wouldn’t expect these items to be haphazardly added to a menu to draw in a few extra undiscerning customers.
So, in I went on a Friday night. A few tables were occupied, but the establishment did not seem busy (snowfall starting that evening did not help). I ordered the marinated pig ears in chili oil appetizer ($13.99) and the cumin lamb biang biang noodles ($15.99), fully expecting to have leftovers.
The pig ears were dressed with garlic and cilantro. While I’m used to the Taiwanese version with just chili oil, I liked this version more. I did add more chili oil (which the waitress / proprietress?) proactively provided. This was a touch saltier than I preferred, but I also didn’t have a bowl of white rice to temper that salt.
The biang biang noodle had quite fluffy pieces of lamb – similar to the tapioca powder-treated pieces of beef in hot pot places. The wide and thick noodles picked up sauce well. If I had to nitpick, I’d like the noodles to be just a touch springier.
While I can’t speak to the other parts of the menu, I quite enjoyed what I ordered. The price point / value proposition looked favorable, and being able to find rougamo (which I will try next time) in a sleepy part of Merrimack was a pleasant surprise.
We decided to go with a classic Sesame Chicken and General Tso Chicken….
Both were super tasty….we will definitely be coming back.
The menu has a lot of items can’t wait to try some different dishes
Spring rolls – the best dish, flavorful
Chicken soup dumplings – typically one of my favorites, not as good as I hoped. The issue was with wrapping, it was very sticky.
Truffled soup dumplings – did not like the flavor
Shrimp balls – okay, but again the skin was sticky and bland
Shrimp rice stick – my favorite normally, not here. Rice wrapping was sticky, the sauce, typically my favorite, was not. I understand everyone makes their own mix, this one just did not work for me.
Braised beef ribs – did not like it, left most of it
Sesame balls – I liked them, but the filling was not what I expected, it was yellow and more sweet, like egg custard
Shumai chicken shrimp – okay, not as flavorful as I am used to.
The servers were pleasant and friendly, but forgot the tea we ordered.
